Coburg vs Bendigo Bombers

Hey Red-Knob !

What is your opinion on Tuck ?

I'm unsure about him at this stage.  He seems a bit limited in terms of pace and skill and seems like a poor version of Martin Pike.  His marking ability is quite impressive though.

However he does deserve a go in the firsts as most senior players are getting games by default.

Well Harry Potter, you’ve pretty much picked him by saying he’s a ‘poor version of Pike.’ I reckon he’s fairly athletic (I actually don’t think he’s slow – not for his size anyway) and he has a big motor in the sense of covering a lot of ground. He has a very unusual kicking style whereby he sort of props at the last moment to stab at the footy. Sometimes it comes out well…other times not. He’s one of those rangy types who can reach for a grab every now and then.

In all, he’s just like nearly every other player RFC recruits: no real class. But as you rightly point out, he deserves a game ahead of some of the other duds we’re playing at the moment.

Tigers' roar silenced.

COBURG Tigers have run out of luck over the past
fortnight.

The players were licking their wounds and searching
for answers after losing their second Victorian
Football League match in succession last Sunday.

This time the up-and-down Bendigo Bombers collected
four valuable competition points thanks to another
dismal first-half showing from the Tigers in front
of 3000 fans at Punt Road Oval.

The trip-up hurt senior coach David Flood, who saw
his club slip to seventh spot on the VFL ladder after
seven games with four wins.

While disappointed with the 19-point loss, Flood
believed his team's strong start to the season will
provide a solid launching pad for the rest of 2004.

Young guns Eric Kuret and Travis Jorgensen had the
crowd talking for their consistent four-quarter
efforts in the midfield and defence respectively.

Kayne Pettifer continues to be overlooked by the
Richmond coaching staff, but has proved to be a boon
for Coburg.

He finished the game with best-on-ground honours
after kicking four goals and is banging on Danny
Frawley's door for a spot in Richmond's best 22.

Justin Blumfield, Ryan Pagan and livewire Ty Zantuck
where also unstoppable, but much of the hard work
was left to too few.

Zantuck slotted 5 goals from his 21 possessions and
was a shining light on an otherwise bleak weekend
for the Tiger fanatics.

Coburg returns home to Coburg City Oval on Sunday
for a must-win clash against Geelong who sit one
rung above them on the VFL ladder.

* Coburg Tiger's reserves continued their climb
up the ladder with a 14-point upset win over an
inaccurate Williamstown Seagulls in the curtain
raiser at Punt Road Oval.

Football manager Shane Purss said the Tigers were
at near full strength and reaped the rewards of the
incussion of a number of quality players.

"It was a solid four-quarter performance by Coburg."
he said.

The Tigers trailed by one point at quarter-time but
never looked back once six goals to one were
registered in the next 30 minutes of play.

"Leight McDonald was the side's best player with
plenty of support from the rest of the midfield,"
Purss said.

"The ruckwork from big man Warren Carlyle was
fantastic, and key forward Alan Faraj was solid,
kicking four goals."
