Coronavirus

They have a lot of ground to make up - 40% of Australia's population and 3500% more deaths including 147 overnight.

I can almost feel sorry for them as their policy is being dictated by not having the resources to fight it - Sweden has one of the poorest health systems in Europe despite high taxation. However they have bullshitted their citizens into submission over CV, and most of them don't have sufficient independence of thought to question it. Prof Tegnell is a celebrity over there!

Exhibit A against socialist groupthink.

Sweden is a capitalist country, no idea how you connect this to some strange notion of socialism.

It's also been going through a fair bit of uncertainty as the anti-immigration populist right parties have managed to come to power for a while there. Sweden, like many countries, is seeing partisan politics erode it's political system.

They still have great Au Pairs.

It's more a case of the government doing a terrible job of protecting its citizens while telling the public they're doing a great job, and the public being too trusting or dumb to know the difference. Even the WHO had a crack the other day.

Ha ha, i thought Lee was describing the USA.

The hindsight judgements might come down to what is considered as the definition of successful.

Sweden is certainly being held up as the model by the Sky News right wingers.

L2R2R does some great work on this thread so maybe we just have to live with the occasional forced and awkward reference to socialism

Hard to eradicate when half the people with symptoms choose not to get tested:

It's quite an invasive procedure (but not painful). They say if you don't gag and splutter, you haven't been tested correctly.

When I was inclined to be tested, the tests weren't available because my name wasn't Tom Hanks. Now I wouldn't get tested unless required to e.g. by my employer.
