Coronavirus

First it was claims there would be a rise in cases 2 weeks after the demo, now it is 4.

Over 400 aboriginal deaths in custody, the world is focused on the issue of racism, most of the time this issue along with aboriginal rights struggle to get any traction.

I don't know if the latest rise in COVID cases is related to the restart of the footy season, and there is no data to support such a view, therefore I do not repeatedly make the implication that they are related.

How long ago did the rise start David? It didn't start today.
As for the march? I was angry at what happened to Floyd in the United States. Like everyone else I saw it on social media & was disgusted.
That's what prompted the BLM protest in our country, Australia.
We had two indigenous deaths in custody last year. Two too many but not enough to protest about in the midst of a pandemic that potentially put all lives at risk.

Having begun public denials as soon as five days after the protest, I’d be surprised if the government is even looking for links, let alone be prepared to declare the data. The answer probably lies among the 170+ untraced cases since June 13, in combination with the so-called “North Melbourne cluster” which is actually a widely-dispersed infection group that originated with protest attendees.

If this grows into something infamous, the protest will become the “grassy knoll” of nagging corona theories.

Where is your evidence the North Melbourne cluster has anything to do with the BLM demo?

You have none?

Well what a big bloody surprise, you constantly make statements with no evidence whatsoever.

If you want evidence have a look at the fact that genetic testing has found that the particular strain of the virus currently doing the rounds is linked to the quarantine hotels.

Tigers of Old - evidence???????

Pretty damn close though. A coincidence? We'll never know.

we know from the data and we know from how the disease is transmitted. wearing masks outside and being in contact for short periods of time is incredibly low risk. being inside, not wearing masks, close physical contact is very high risk and weve seen that with the cases od transmission at the meatworks, the hotels and with families.

Blaming BLM is just not supported by any data or known disease behaviour.

Why did the State Government recommend people didn't march if it was incredibly low risk?

They saw it as an unnecessary risk, even if it's low. They (we) accept much more significant risks everyday, but do so for different reasons.

We are currently taking a much bigger risk by not locking down more areas in Melbourne. But we deem that acceptable.

You are all correct. Brett clearly not interested in anything to do with corona.

Amazing your CHO ignores the main source of infection - returning travellers. Some public health expert there.

It's not necessarily whether the march resulted in an increase of transmissions, it is the bad example and precedent that it set and effectively encouraged others to flout the rules, even moreso as there was little consequence for the marchers (either legally or in transmission/infection)

I’ll try one more time MDJ because you just seem to want to ignore the facts in some sort of vendetta.
The information stated at that meeting was then given to those who are actually in charge of delivery and that is not CHO.
You should also note that the deputy secretary who is Prof Sutton’s boss has since been stood down. She was in charge of his office as well as many other things, including providing health services to the hotel quarantine program.

That's a weak cop out IMO.
People need to take responsibility for their own actions and hide behind a protest if they choose to ignore the current recommendations.
And the current evidence is that the virus has been spread by people working at the hotels, then spreading it thru their families and close contacts.

Key quote: " The Age is not suggesting Professor Sutton did not act on the concerns, only that he was told. "

Dunno why you are so hot to pin blame on Sutton as has been stated before he is an advisor he doesn't actually make decisions, those are made by the politicians.

Thats just parroting the claims made by some which have no evidence to back them up, why didn;t the same thing happen in other states which also had BLM marches.

In the last week the government has thrown out

security failings
returned travellers
language barriers
religious gatherings
superspreaders
lax attitudes
but definitely NOT protesters

It's an amalgam of all of the above. Maybe Victoria's just been unlucky, but Dan better start getting lucky in a hurry.
