Interesting article in the Age this morning where the inventor of the snicko technology said glancing touches like the Jaiswal one are unlikely to be picked up because they don’t make a noise.
It would be hotspot that would pick it up and for whatever reason it isn’t being used in this series.
There was an article about the start of the series that mentioned even hot spot wasn't accurate enough because on some hot days it failed to show up on faint edges. Couldn't generate enough friction heat to show up on the ball or bat.

Hadn’t heard that before, interesting

In the end that’s why we have the final factor of the 3rd umpire having physical evidence that overrides all technology and that’s how Simon Taufel explained it. The 3rd umpire could clearly see the deflection so he did his job and made the right decision.

To be fair, the Aussies have been rewarded for selection loyalty in recent years, particularly with Marsh. Could easily see him come out and bludgeon a ton.
I'm far from a Marsh hater. I like him. You can see his teammates love him. And when he's on he's destructive.

But.

46 tests, 80 innings. 3 tons. (All against England.) Suggests he almost certainly won't come out and bludgeon a ton.

Test average of 28. It's not an aberration: he averages 33 in first-class cricket. He's 33 years old; this is who he is. 51 wickets at just over 1 per test, but only 9 wickets in 14 tests in this most recent stint in the team.

9 tests, 17 innings v India. Not one half-century. Highest score 47. Average 14.87.

Webster's only two years younger but we all know whoever plays is only holding the spot for Cam Green anyway. (Aaron Hardie, Jack Edwards also have claims.) Webster has been domestically dominant for the past two years. He's making big runs and taking plenty of wickets: 448 runs at 58 and 16 wickets at 30 in six first-class matches this season, after 938 runs (160 more than anyone else) at 58 and 30 wickets at 29 in 11 Shield games last season. Even in 2022/23 he scored 596 runs at 42 while taking 19 wickets at 42 with his off-spin (he's a much better bowler since switching to mediums). Those are fantastic numbers. He deserves a go. He can't do any worse than Marsh.

But you're probably right that Marsh will play.

If that's true about hot spot, an explanation is due from Fox because they've been big-noting themselves this series about how good and technical their coverage is.
Well they've got Stump cam n Tracker plus the new FoxRay for bio mechanical analysis n some sort of Foxview for a 360 degree type image or something which they then happily blather repetitively about every ten minutes or so. Yet sadly the old hot spot n snickometer simply are proven to be helpful assistance for reviewed decisions but have never been totally reliably 100% accurate.
Personally happy enough to go the old fashioned umpires do the deciding regardless of whether right or wrong. But all the slo mo high def technology available on constant repeat to the broadcasters destroys umpires credibility. Therefore if they're gunna use technology to review n analyse every aspect of the game to death. Use all the technology available to assist in being as accurate as possible n *smile* off the crap meccano men n loopy swirly bowler movement tracker that has nothing to do with adjudicating the game.

Webster has to play, if he doesn’t it really makes a lie of performances leading to selection.

There was a small announcement tucked away that Jhye Richardson was playing for the scorchers and then coming back to the squad for the Sydney test. Maybe they want to test his fitness although he will only bowl 4 overs of course. The only other quick in the squad is Abbott I think (?) but playing Jhye Richardson would be risky, although personally I rate him incredibly highly.

Great story Leysy
Brilliant stuff by Cricket Australia to get fans there. If you get people there and enjoy it they will come again.

Brilliant test
40 wickets
2 centuries
Wickets to quicks and Lyon still got 5
Match lasted until the last hour.
Start of the day there was 4 possible scenarios for a result, and maybe even at tea though India would have been less then5%. Disappointed they went against their natural game and didn’t attack as much especially Sharma, Jaiswal and Pant.

Instead of Webster for Marsh I would like to see 2 specialist spinners and have Carey bat 6 and Murphy/Swepson/ Kuhneman play

Agree with all you've said re: the pitch MK.

You know when the best players are performing - Bumrah, Smith, Cummins etc it is a good wicket.

Not with you on weakening the batting to include another spinner. The draw is our friend. It is incumbent on India to beat us.

So no way would Leysy be playing another spinner (on top of Lyon and Head.

If they make the change = Webster is the man. For all the reasons @spook outlined. He is far and away the best performed state player, and he's an all rounder.

Was going to look up the numbers and post exactly the same re: Slug Webster.

Bailey just needs to get past his obvious bias against Tasmanian's and pick him.

Might have been done in private in the dressing rooms, but perhaps if the Virus had made some sort of on field apology gesture at the end of the days play or before the start of the next days play it might have settled the crowds tone toward him.
And it might have also tempered the Indian supporters behaviour and subsequent reactions to the DRS results, his supporters believe in him so much they take cues from him.

He has/had a real opportunity to acknowledge what he did overstepped the mark and influence the future behaviour of millions. But he chooses to remain indignant and display poor sportsmanship that I am sure will be copied and embolden similar actions.

Not surprising that millions of his fans have displayed the same attitude to clearly correct umpiring decisions.

Haarrgh FMD T.T. that's a fairly decent little private thought bubble you're living in.
Ozzie cricketers were a leading example of the Ugly Australians onfield a few years back. Captain Clarke got picked up on stump mic's at one stage telling some batsman to face up so the bowler could break his *smile* arm. Just a little humorous banter. Ozzies taught the Virus n Indian cricket all about getting into the face of the oppo sides with raw aggression over many years. Even our own cricket writers used to comment on how bad we were for quite some time.
The Poms n Sth Africans were pretty much used to the abrasive n aggressive type of on field behaviour n went toe to toe, but the sub continent teams always struggled to deal with that style of in your face cricket.
lol that's all tongue in cheek stuff TM. Kohli is v-lining into blokes and arguing with fans. Then he's undermining the captain. India has had our measure for ten years now and bc they're on the decline he's struggling to cope with the loss of power and resorting to violence and blame when he's got the problem. He's a horrible human being and only adored by Indians. All our legends who i suspect you're referring too are all well respected after they retired. Kohli got booed which says it all really.

Surely you could access Kayo via a VPN?

On Bumrah, he's better than Hadlee or Holding, @Leysy Days . He's up there with Marshall, Akram and Ambrose. That's the tippity-top.
McGrath in that bracket for mine as well. Bumrah has a bit of that McGrath metronomic line.

I like Konstas' enthusiasm but the way he was carrying on at short leg yesterday was pretty ridiculous in terms of trying to put the Indians off their game. If he was Indian I'd probably use stronger language. I'm sure they'll have had a quiet word to him about it.
looked poor to me . He's got some growing up to do.

i would play Cooper Connolly for Marsh if it's a traditional Sydney wicket.
Are you @tigerman 's alt??? :ROFLMAO:

Connolly has played 4 first-class games! For a grand total of ZERO wickets. His time will come but it's not now. And Sydney hasn't been a 'traditional' turning Sydney pitch for many years.

On Konstas, the Indians have been giving him heaps, going back to openly mocking him while he smashed a century in the PM XI's game, through to (technically) physical assault. He's well within his rights to give some back.

This series appears to have rejuvenated a lot of cricket fans love for the game , hopefully the Aussie team can build on this into next seasons Ashes .

Been at the Test and then reading social media , the Indian fans appear a lot like a lot of us on here when it comes to the Tiges , extremely passionate and just a wee bit one eyed 😉

Again a bit like the Tiges I hope there is some genuine top end talent coming through the state sides as there appears to be a few getting a tad past there best and the odd niggle

I think Sydney hasn’t lost the traditional spinning track as you seem to think. I think the last lot of tests have been rain affected.
I’m not interested in Connolly taking wickets, but more for his batting. His value as a bowler will only be a chop out for the quicks, but can come into play if the wicket does turn. He’s hardly bowled in his four state games so that’s really irrelevant as the Rocket is the main spinner for WA. He hardly gets a bowl as the WA boys are a strong bowling line up. Whatever the situation is he would be a massive upgrade on the limp bison who has done nothing with bat or ball all Summer.
On konstas I think he just needs to rein it in a bit whether the Indians have ill treated him or not. I think he needs to still prove himself at the level and by focusing on his game more will only help this. Starting to look like a Greek -Australian tennis player atm. 😂

Yep, Connolly's not going to be selected because of his bowling that's for sure, has only bowled 16 overs from 5 innings in 4 First Class games.

Batting is Connolly's go, averages 62 with the bat in those 4 FC games with 3 50's from 6 innings. He's a promising talent, will be interesting to see if he's on the plane to Sri Lanka in 3 weeks time.

Mighta worn a bouncer or three in his day as well. Got one of those whiny sorta hard to listen to voices n might be a bit to hard n blunt for today's type of pampered individuals. But he was a bloody premium tough nut opener in his day.
My respect for Langer came when, as a newbie he was really the only one to stand up against the fearsome might of the West Indies power house.
