Not everyone is an extrovert, not everyone can be bothered with the same inane questions the media trot out game after game...and you just know they would try to get personal.
The greatest goal kicker the game has seen did no media and would answer questions by throwing crutches at the reporter.
Yep and against Eddie when he was a Ch 10 reporter. Even better.

What’s his opinion on Gary Ablett snr?
Lucky to get 3 words out of him in his playing career.
And Gary was the second best player I’ve ever seen.
Or Bruce Doull. Famous for not speaking in public. This is the problem wth a lot of the football media, they seem to think that the off field gossip they report on and the interviews they do with the players are what people want. It’s not. People want to see the stars of the game doing what they do best on the field, not talking to someone like Robinson about it. That’s what he and others in his profession want because it increases their profile.

Hey blobbo.. Dusty doesn’t owe YOUR employer anything. Foxfooty paid for the rights to show games of football. Dusty put on a game for YOUR employer. He isn’t obligated to do anything more for you. He is employed by the Richmond Football Club. They pay him big money because that’s what they think he is worth. He has proved over the past 5 years that he is worth whatever they have paid him. The RFC has benefited many times over from their investment. They understood why he needed time away and respected his decision. Why don’t you? While it would be nice for his fans, supporters and members to hear from him, he is under no obligation to talk to us. He owes us nothing. The majority of us respect that. We are satisfied with him doing his talking on the field over 4 quarters on the weekend. You also have a very short selective memory. I still have saved on my Foxtel box, “Nick & Dusty- One on One”. He had no problem talking to your network about footy. You want him to talk about his private life which is for him to decide whether he wants to talk about. How about respecting his wishes and not whine like a stuck pig when you don’t get your way. You might say they would have been innocuous Dorothy Dixer questions about whether it was good to be back but we all know that reporters usually try and get more.
While he doesn’t owe YOUR employer anything, you however do. I’m sure they appreciate you turning up for work seemingly pissed most times or leading such an unhealthy lifestyle that placed you in the situation where you were hospitalised and off work for a lengthy period of time. Do you still turn up pissed at work or just act like you do? I’m sure a lot of YOUR viewers would like you to answer that

Dusty took time away from the game, and his teammates who he loves, and Robinson spits the dummy because declined to be interviewed.

Everyone knows the reason why Dusty needed a break, what a pathetic person Robinson is. He is a disgrace, and is not a fit and proper person to hold the positions that he does.

Dear Robbo,
Dusty’s a competent enough interviewee these days. I think he should do the quick after-match chats. And I believe he will.
But not now.
Just give him time and steer clear of the topic of the very recent death of his beloved dad. Resist the urge to tease out emotional porn for your own benefit. It’s gauche.
You don’t want to be gauche do you?

Dustin didn't like doing interviews before. It's just accepted at this point. Who in their right mind would think he would be open to doing an interview now of all times? Especially when he knows what they're going to ask him about. I wouldn't be surprised if he went the whole season without talking to anyone and that's actually what I was expecting. He says everything he needs to say on the field.

Martin just gave 2 hours of entertainment and Fox's ratings were likely up as a result of him playing. They should be thanking him and hoping he once again gets to demonstrate his magic in the finals.

Blobbo had retired him 6 weeks ago..
He’s a duplicitous snake.
That’s the word I was looking for “ duplicitous “ ;) ( yes I’m off to get the Webster out)

Continues to prove the low life ambulance chasing scum he is , does not care one iota about the young men playing the game, he’s just about selling gossip.

After witnessing his first Don’t Argue yesterday afternoon at the G, I felt that order in the universe had finally been restored. Happy to share the trademark with such a legendary footballer
when he did the first dont argue my first words were " Dusty is definetly back"

great article.
Slobbo could only dream of writing something at least half as good on his very best day.
Send it to him
The AFL should be kissing Martin's feet that he decided to return.
Biggest crowd to the footy for the season.
Not includeding Anzac Day/Easter Monday etc

so true. worlds apart the Guardian article and Blobs..

thinking a little more on Blobs article - the insensitivity to Dustins situation and why he took time out is
mind-blowing. really tells you something about Blobs attitude to footy.. and the publication he 'writes' for ..
i hope a wider spectrum of people other than RFC faithful take him to task on it ...

The footy world was delighted to see Dustin Martin back, but his return wasn’t perfect.

DISLIKES

1. Dusty no-go

While Gillon and Co are in the States entertaining TV rights offers from global media giants – the most recent publicly disclosed deal was worth $2.5 billion – it’s ironic that the most fascinating name in football won’t talk to the media. Can you imagine the Yank TV execs (their brethren demand NBA players play on Christmas Day, mind you) being told they’ll need to cough up $3 billion for the rights but by the way the game’s best player won’t talk to you when you need him to? That’s what happened with Fox Footy on Saturday. The station contacted Richmond last week and said they’d like to talk to Martin before or after the game. The Tigers warned Fox that Martin wouldn’t talk. On the day, Martin was approached by Sarah Jones on the ground post-siren, where Martin waved her off, and then Nick Riewoldt, a mate of Martin’s, went down to Tigers rooms post-match, where he asked a Tigers media person to ask Martin for two minutes to answer two Dorothy Dixers. Like, what was it like to be back? Any message for the fans? It’s not known if said media person even asked Martin. It’s a funny world. The AFL is asking for billions and will get it, the players will ask for a billion in salaries and will get it – both paid by the TV rights – and yet Fox Footy asks for a minute and they get told no. You can understand why Martin would avoid a lengthy sit-down interview, but once you step on the ground, you can’t pick and choose. There are obligations to the broadcaster and to the game.

Irony would be Robbo went off the air for months on end and no one had any idea what had happened to him. He only spoke about what he had been through when he felt comfortable enough to return and now seems to be holding Martin to a different standard.

Of all the duplicitous, cynical and semi-conscious things he says in that article, the part that annoys me the most it the suggestion that Martin could have fronted up for a couple of "Dorothy Dixers. Like, what was it like to be back? Any message for the fans?"

Who does that serve? What would be the benefit? What great insight will you get from him saying "Yep, good." "Cheers"?

His message to the fans was there from the first don't argue. You could see what it was like for him to be back when he was mobbed by teammates. Meanwhile, it opens him up to horrible and awkward questions likely to be asked like "Would your Dad be happy... etc."

There's no benefit to answering inane fox footy questions. And there's possible harm in questions that aren't inane.

Robbo should have said what he was actually thinking. "I wish we coulda got Dusty to cry on live TV for the internet points".

*smile* him.

*smile* him completely.
