The Taranto deal no issues. Didnt overpay with a top 5 or top 10 pick. Won our B&F and came 6th in the Brownlow with 19 votes.
The Hopper deal yes we overpaid with pick 8.

Don't forget Pick 8 was supposedly requested by West Coke in a trade for their next future first which most likely will be the first pick...

Exactly. Look at where all the key Hawthorn players of the late 00s/early 10s are. It happens to all successful clubs. we're just not accustomed to it

kanes probably right. Why are those players playing? Should’ve gone back to the draft 2 years ago and starting moving on some players.

In general Cornes has a point but as usual lacks real insight.

We have recruited poorly since 2018, particularly when it comes to drafting.
Two rising star nominees in that time, none of whom played on Saturday. Most games from a draftee in that period is Ross and he was the sub on Saturday.

We can use our success and subsequent low draft picks as an excuse but we certainly haven’t help ourselves with selection like RCD, Dow etc. Plus we’ve compounded the problem with some baffling list management decisions particularly when it comes to retaining players that have no right being on an AFL list.

Standards have dropped all over the club, not just coaching and players.

Yeah, so from a long term perspective you might say that it’s going to take longer to re build, but 2 things:

1) Busslinger and co are not going to make any improvement to us short term at all. So if you think we’re battling at the moment, it’d be a LOT worse with not having Taranto and Hopper.

2) We will have a bunch of 2024 draft picks and no doubt, a host more in 2025. Early ones. We need the likes of senior players like Taranto and Hopper to help develop these next waves.

Look at Norf. They’ve had a heap of years of early picks and gone nowhere because they don’t have the senior core to help develop them. Busslinger and co aren’t gonna do that for Richmond ? We’d be falling into the trap Norf have been in for years without the Taranto and Hopper deals.

Personally, I reckon we’re setting up pretty well for this “re-build”. It’s gonna take time, but I’m happy with the foundations we’re laying.

Well said. You can't have a scorched earth policy and only have youth. It's like when we brought in Houli and Grigg in the early 2010s, they were able to provide some support for the younger players and then flourished when we became good!

Cornes basically picks something he thinks will draw in the fish and watches the frenzy. He doesn’t think ahead and like most of the media he’s never really called open to seriously justify anything he says.
