The good news about the timing is that if he had retired in October we may have kept Todd Elton on the list !

Elton would be spewing. He'd just worked out how to play at AFL level

I like the advice that Mason Cox from the Pies gave him. “Stay single and try to keep your eyes on the field.” with an image of USC cheerleaders attached.

Actually has a 4 year scholorship at USC. That probably explains the timing. Good on him

*smile*...just heard it. Good stuff Griffo!!! Unlike Lemon the dreamer, Griffo's got the traits for an NFL club. Any club will take him.

Sad to see him go early, but life's more important and I'll be looking forward to see him punting in the NFL.

Great chance for Ben.

Just reading more about the USC Trojans.
Campus located in the heart of Los Angeles.
Student body numbers 45,500
Their budget for 2017 was 4.9 BILLION.
Donations were 5 BILLION.
They play home games at the LA Coliseum (where the LA Rams played the Atlanta Falcons last week in the NFL)
Their marching band are most notable for being in the Fleetwood Mac "Tusk" video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfYfd7U8xlo
You get the full effect about 2 minutes in. Sure beats a half dozen drummers.
But we still get more fans at our games. 100,021 (GF) to 93, 607.

The season just ended they had an Australian as one of their punters, Chris Tilbey from Sandringham. http://usctrojans.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6165

Trojans finished 10th and 12th in top 25 rankings, so he's in a good team.

Best option for Griff as it should avoid long term injury from repeated concussions. At an in-opportune time for the Tigers but Griff has no choice. Good luck to him and I hope he has a long and rewarding career in the States

In situations like this club's should be allowed to bring another play onto the list, even as a rookie or VFL elevation. Clearly best for both parties for him to leave and no reason why Richmond should be the one being penalised.

No way. Essendon would rort that by retiring duds and veterans to churn through new prospect players and the afl would firstly turn a blind eye to it then they'd bend the rules to add more supplementary players from a wider net, then they'd give them a priority pick for cheating because the competition 'needs a competitive essendon' for some reason.

Oh, and good luck and thanks Griffens!

As soon as they mentioned USC Fleetwod Mac cam straight into view!
Whatever you think of US pro sports the college football and basketball culture is unique.

Unfortunately was a ticking time bomb. Worked a nice exit strategy. Let's hope we see him on 7mate early on a Monday morning 5 years from now. NFL punters can have very long careers. . One team in the playoffs last weekend ran out of kickers and had to bring in a kicker who wasn't even listed...had started work in a stock broker and they called him up for a trial...gets the gig and is a NFL player a few days later.
