Harry Armstrong

Have a look at his interview with Ben Dixon from draft night after he got drafted. It’s with his mum. He just seems a very relaxed and calm kid, not necessarily an introvert. His mum reckons he does what he has to at home and can cook a range of things. Said he’s a good kid. I think he is a self motivated kid that’s just pretty even. I get the feeling that if he makes it he will be a steady performer that we can rely on and one that does not lose his head when all others are.

Harry seems a bit quiet, possibly even an introvert.
“Needs to work on his consistency”, apparently.
I assume that’s part of why he “slipped”, despite Lloydy’s pre-draft boosterism.
And why the less skilled but more competitive Faull was prioritised.
Not every player needs to be the front n centre noisy bugger at the party, some are just naturally a bit quiet as they get around n do their thing.
Won't be a complaint from me if in a few years time he's just roaming around the forward line silent assassin style n picking off a couple of goals a game, while the big bash n crash blokes are taking the heat n breaking packs.
Bunk him in with Jackmond, sorted.
Nank used to be a pretty quiet type too.
Plenty of time for him to find his feet, and his voice.

Plays like Fevola on the field but is anything but a Fevola off the field. I think the steady progress of Amiss at Fremantle is a handy guide as to Armstrong's potential learning curve. Both Amiss & Treacy have made impressive gains the past year, good coaching and a fair degree of patience can reap significant rewards. I'm confident we can get the best out of Armstrong.

You were definitely president for Armstrong, I had him roughly on par with Faull but didn't expect him to slide so far, it was a pleasant surprise the way the draft panned out. Elite kicking is always draftable, I think Lloyd probably oversold his overhead ability but for a pick in the twenties it could turn out to be a masterstroke.

When a key forward kicks really well, and long, it is an enormous weapon. He has also proven in his junior career he can do it in big games and important moments.

He kicks so well he is probably the sort of guy who doesn’t need to get it much.

6-8 possessions, 3 goals = gold
Goals from around and outside the 50 metre arc = gold

For all the great forwards we have had in recent years we haven’t had one who can consistently kick goals from long distances since Disco.

It’s an ungainly style in some ways but I hope we don’t try and change it.

didn't jack stick em through from 55m out on the boundary when we needed em with monotonous regularity?

Jack was never a consistently long kick imo. He hit the odd one for sure but he wasn't a natural super boot

HAs long kicks to me looked to travel quiet low. 50m darts. That'll look awesome if it's a trademark.

wisely kept his superbootedness to put us in front late in big games?

what a champion he was. got bigger and better the higher the stakes and the more desperate the situation

Imagine the Laloyd tanty if we looked to change anything in Armstong's kicking action.

His field kicking off either foot was also terribly underrated.
He really was a masterful player.
God I miss him

I don't know what to think about this kid. Based solely on Lloyd's endorsement I didn't like him or his highlights package. He was good in the Champs Final but the rest of the package seemed pretty meh. It's claimed he's strong overhead - I didn't see it. That his ground game was good. Maybe. He can kick it - sure.

Maybe he'll be a lurker. Maybe his game will complement Faull's the way some people are saying and they'll be the perfect tandem. I'm going to try really hard to like him.

I'm going to make the trip into town some morning's before Chrissy to check out training sessions just to take in all the new bigs and see how they go about it. Hope I can recognise them all.

getting Armstrong and Jonty Faull is huge for the club going forward (excuse the pun)
