Kane Lambert

i have watched the GF now a few times and Lambert was unbelievable and could of easily been awarded with the Norm Smith, that 3rd qr he was our engine.

Here were the top 5 in the grand final:

Top 5 Most Distance Covered:

1. Kane Lambert- 16.3km
2. Bachar Houli- 14.6km
3. David Mackay- 14.4km
4. Rory Laird- 14.4km

So Lambo ran 10% more than the next player. Nearly 2ks more than any crow.
Super effort and determination that really impacted the match

Kane had a fantastic GF and a much improved season with early success against both Adam Treloar and Sam Mitchell in shut down roles. We saw his physique get bigger and his quickness by hand and foot improve greatly.
Why did he improve so much?
Konrad Marshall's book p.140 gives us an insight (after round 3, 2017) - 'Lambert is the kind of player who sees an off-season not as a time to recharge but as time to get ahead, hiring a personal trainer to put on size and work on explosive actions. Even now, on days off from the club, he finds a way to squeeze in some cross-training - perhaps swimming and always some extra weights. "You want to do everything you can and not put a foot wrong. I just want to get the absolute best out of myself," he says. "I'm smaller, I'm slower, and there are going to be better, more skilful players than me, but I don't want anyone to work harder than me." '

I'm loving this book so much; fantastic insights into the dedication of the players and the admin personnel that support the players so much.

Great attitude there shows why he finally stepped up and made the year what he did, and why he found his place.

Young Higgins may have found his training mentor

Just love this bloke. Just watched the GF again last night and agree he was an absolute machine the way he ran and found the ball. Have always admired his fight and dedication and he fully deserved 3rd in our B&F.

Jayden Short says in his interview on the club site that Lambert is the fittest at the club. Seemed like he won the 3km run today. Doesn't surprise me the way he runs both ways in games. Prime example of a bloke who has committed himself to get every ounce out of himself.

To do it in a home and away game is decent.

But to dominate a finals series means he is much more than your average battler

Bloody amazing effort by Lamblett. Missed out on getting drafted as a youngster, plugs away in the VFL n gets thrown a rookie life line. Jumps into the seniors early first season n gets injured missing a fair chunk of the year. Couple of years in he's one of our best players in the premiership.
He'd be the perfect mentor senior player for someone like young Higgins, seems they both have a similar approach to getting the max out of themselves as players.

Amazing that the Herald Sun didn't have him in the best players.

Not to mention those little steps. Must have had thousands more steps than anyone else.
