Whiplash – saw it with my son. 100 minutes of watching Richo kick from 15 metres out. Anyone sense that perhaps the music teacher was a self loathing gay?

Saw a really great British film tonight, much in the style of Billie Elliott, Brassed Off and Made in Dagenham.

Pride

Based on a true story that interrelates the great issues of Britain in the early 1980's - the miners' strike, gay rights and the beginning of the AIDS epidemic.
U.K. gay activists work to help miners during their lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in the summer of 1984.

The movie is special to me because I was living in London at that time.
I recommend it to all the mature minded.

Looks good Phantom, I'm sure looking forward to it and perhaps the movie also in 30 years time that gives that Nazi prick Abbot the same treatment towards minorities instead of Thatcher against the unions.

I saw Interstellar last night and was blown away. It may be better than 2001 IMHO. I can see why people might not like the ending but to me the whole film held together really well.

5 out of 5.

Loved most of it but the ending sucked a little.

The bookshelf thing was pretty lame. Surely there was another way the gravity thing could've worked?

I was underwhelmed by Interstellar. Perhaps my expectations were too high.
Promising concepts but less than stellar as an overall film. Felt it could have done with a lot of editing.

Saw a preview of Nightcrawler last night.

Very difficult movie to take ... subject matter is very disturbing. For the first time in many years found myself struggling to watch certain scenes (a very good advert for why ABC / SBS should never be defunded, and why we should not be left to the mercy of ambulance chasing news services).

Gyllenhaal's performance was amazing. Had the Barty Crouch Jnr serpentine tongue flick going.

Loved it to pieces. Loved the adventures on the planets, loved the cinematography. There were two options for the ending. The one Nolan chose was more likely to disappoint, but the great thing about the 5th dimension is that we have no comprehension of it. (I remember as a callow physics student at Uni sitting in the caf - probably smoking - trying to draw the fourth dimension on a 2-D page. Fun times.)

Just watched fury - loved the gritty, unforgiving first half with zero sentimentality - as soon as I vocalised this to my girlfriend the God and country cheesy American crap started :( but really worth a look I'd you like a good war movie. The tank battles are pretty awesome.

Gotta say the new Star Wars trailer had me still pretty excited.

I always laugh when these trailers come out.

It's pretty much the only footage they've got.

One to appease all the fans out there. I count myself among them, but this film is miles away ;D

Yep they pretty much could have released a black frame or anything bar jar jar binks and I'd have been excited. Mind you that enthusiasm is reigned in somewhat after the Phantom Menace debacle several years back. Least George Lucas isn't directing this one..

Prisoners is a must see. best mystery drama since zodiac for mine

Just watched this tonight on the IQ and am glad I saved money from the cinema last year. Zodiac was way better than this....

Watchable, but silly film full of useless red herrings and a confusing plot which made no sense in the end. Torture porn or what!

Maybe it was one of those 'Marilyn Monroe' type plots (i.e. just watch the film because Hugh Jackman is in it)

I know films can't be perfect and admittedly I'm a 'claw'-type ;D when it comes to reviewing films, but I just thought this one went over the top and dragged on for too long. Too many plot holes. Even the ending meant nothing with JG standing around hearing HJ's whistle......maybe it was one of those 'keep the audience guessing' type of ends.

What was the plot anyway? A little, old aunt as the evil killer of two girls? Not much of a thorough police investigation hey? Sorry clevo, but I laughed. Towards the end of the film when she pointed the gun at HJ and just followed what she said, he was in a perfect position to easily give her a big whack around the head. Average acting IMO, especially with HJ's continuous torturing of a mentally disabled bloke....was this really necessary??
