The good thing is that when we have another poor season in 2026 (which we will) we’ll be able to ask the AFL for an assistance package too. They got one seven years after a flag. It’ll be 6 years for us. Probably 10-12 wins for us over the 3 year period of ‘24-‘26 period, 8 wins for them over the 3 year period of ‘23-‘25.
Yeah nah. It’s the AFL we are talking about. We will get the same as we have always got. SFA.

The fact that they're the biggest club in WA has everything to do with it. AFL doesn't want them down the bottom too long.

Yes the Tim Kelly trade cost them big time & backfired spectacularly. On top of the expected Allen (injured) for pick 2, the AFL has given them a massive leg up for a team that won a flag 7 years ago.
One of club honcho's Adam Simpson made that decision to recruit Kelly but now strutting around in AFL circles around Melbourne. I consider he will get a AFL appointment soon.

I know, I was only joking.

But in all seriousness when are the AFL going to get serious and hand out an assistance package too Geelong?! It’s been 4 days since they’ve been in a GF!

If I'm a Melbourne supporter, I'm loving these changes by King.

Oliver and Petracca are yesterday's heroes. May appears to be a culture killer.

Trades for Oliver and Petracca, in particular, will get the Dees right back into this draft.

And if there is one thing this year's draft has, it's a few useful big bodied midfield contest-types.

Add, say, Sharp and/or Greeves to Langford and Lindsay and they're in total midfield reset mode with some serious top end talent.

Their defence needs at least one more tall—as a stopgap they could do worse than a Blight-type as a complement to McDonald and the more mobile Lever.

King is a pretty solid citizen. This is as much a culture reset as an on-field one.

It will be interesting what both cost.
Melbourne would rate them highly- i doubt they are letting them go for picks in the 30s. But both come with considerable risk, so teams may not want to pay too much.

Funnily enough, I saw Ross the Boss Lyon in the street today.
On Glenhuntly Road in Elsternwick, near Molino's nursery store.
I briefly asked him how many years it would take before the Tigers bounced back.
He joked: "Fifty years. You've won three."

On the law of averages he is right but his mistake is including Saints in the average

I don't know the guy but from the outside it seems Jack Steele is a fine character.

There are plenty of clubs that could use a figurehead like him to improve their culture.

Crazy Vossy is talking about a lack of resilience at Carlton. Ship off Cerra, bring in Steele, similar playing traits but a massive injection of leadership.

The Dees could do worse than replace a flaky Oliver and a self-absorbed Petracca with someone like Steele.

The Crows need a replacement for Crouch (I don't think Berry is quite up to it). Could they top up with Steele and go again in 2026?

Would he move to West Coast? You could argue that he plays the Yeo role and becomes a mentor for a young list.

In an era where character earns you a premium, I reckon Steele would be a good pick up for the right club.

Geesook could use him because the rest of them are *smile*

That Clayton Oliver contract was the worst in the AFL. It’s blown up in Melbourne’s face.
If we believe the numbers $1.3M a year for Oliver, Taranto’s deal of $800k looks value for money.

They are not that different in 2025-28. And our bloke isn’t a malcontent. Leads by example.

Makes it even more value. And after all that, I think GWS and Oliver are great fit.

I found this story by Glenn Archer amusing. Woe is North & Essendon and they should have a starting midfield of Reid, JHF & Taryn Thomas! And how sad a list of other teams recruits is that?
