Looking at this list just emphasises how poor our 1st round drafting has been lately with picks 10-20
Rcd , Dow , Ellis , Lennon , CCj , Higgins (last 2 leaving)

I think it's fairer to show all the picks in any given year, the aim for any recruiter is to identify 3 core players each draft, anything beyond that is a bonus. The job is made infinitely harder when you do butcher early picks but it's not a doomsday scenario as was illustrated in the Corey Ellis draft. The big difference I'm seeing is Matthew Clarke is more of a risk taker than Francis Jackson, he lacks a certain amount of conservatism that has seen him overlook players such as Sam Taylor in favour of Coleman-Jones, or Tom Brown instead of going tall or bolstering the midfield. At least he got pick 19 back but that decision has already cost an AA backman & all that capital has now gone on Taranto. It may turn out in the end, let's wait and see, the proof will be in the 2023 pudding.

- RCD was take pick 20 and the two players taken immediately after him both failed to play a game and the player taken before him has been delisted too.
- Dow similar to RCD. Was taken with the last pick the first round in the 2019 draft and there wasn’t much talent available at that pick.
- CCJ was not a first round pick.
- Higgins a failed pick? He chose to leave, not sure how you can blame Clarke and co. for that. His subsequent form has vindicated his selection somewhat.
- Ellis and Lennon were both failures but why pick those two and not include Rioli, Vlastuin and B Ellis? All first rounders and all extremely successful picks.

Very easy to cherry pick draft picks and craft a narrative of poor performance when you don’t look at the whole picture. Remember, we did win 3 premierships in that time so we clearly did something right.
