Success because 2022 was a positive step in the larger premiership journey of this club.

We now have confidence we can refresh on the run and likely avoid bottoming out this decade, so this season's experience counts towards improving our chances of winning a future premiership.

I consider 2013-2015 successes for the same reason, in hindsight.

Cheese sanger. Good quality flavoursome cheese on somewhat dried n staleish bread. Whack it in the sanger press n make a toasty out of it.

Definitely failure
Why ?
We are much better than 7th finish
How on earth we lose to GC , Freo and North destroyed the season
Left way to many goals on the ground . I know I know before anyone says anything about being no 1 offensively etc . But we controlled many games for the majority of the game and we are out first week . That’s a failure !. We are a very very good team that didn’t deliver to its potential

We weren't planning on best player making it onto the field for 8 games and most of them with moderate impact.
We weren't expecting nearly every veteran to spend time out with hammys.
We weren't used to the turnover in personnel this led to especially in the back line.

All in all I thought this was the last chance for a flag in this dynasty and for these reasons we fell short.

I think it’s a success in terms of paving our way to our next premiership - through the season we were a lot less dependent on our older players. In addition to Gibcus and Sonsie coming in and looking like they belonged there was tremendous (and largely unexpected) improvement in Cumberland, Miller and M. Rioli which speaks positively of our development coaching. I’m hoping last night will have stung the younger players (the way the EF losses of 2013-15 would have hurt our premiership generation) and will spur them on to future finals victories.
I think.the reliance on older players is still.there. Grimes back. Prestia mid Dusty fwd .. wouldn't go all the way without them.

Making the final eight, given all the circumstances, made it a definite SUCCESS imho.

Fail.

Didn’t learn from any of the close losses. Got over-run frequently. Lost to the worst team this century. Got regularly smashed in the midfield.

We did, however, blood some exciting new talent.

It was "a stepping stone year".

A stepping stone year for our younger players to understand the elite level and our game plans.

A stepping stone year for our older players to understand their evolving leadership roles as the middle 20yos and younger players take over the heavy grunt work

A stepping stone year for our changing coaching group to learn how the new talent in the club play and how to design game plans to suit that talent and fit with our culture.

A stepping stone year where our culture was exposed, tested and dented - a great way to learn and grow.

Which raises the ultimate question which can only be answered by the players, coaches and club management in time - have they learned from the lessons of this "stepping stone year "?

In hindsight I think this year will be seen as a watershed year.

We started transitioning the list and our game style to suit our ageing stars and the rules they changed to defeat us.

We were one of the top 3 best performed teams in the last half of the year with a significant injection of youth.

We however, struggled all year to get the elusive onfield mix right, and as supporters we were frustrated because we interspersed moments of sheer brilliance with moments of comedy-like ineptitude. Frustrating.

We can see where we are going and it is tantalisingly close, perhaps Taranto close?

I had given up on Funky Miller - I thought he was a list clogger but he has proven he has something to give. I want to see the rest.

Cumberland I thought was going to be one of those nearly players who show moments but ultimately get delisted because they can't do it consistently. Again I was wrong. I am so excited to see how explosive he will be with another year of training and some kegs added to his frame. He has traits of Gablett snr (although even in my wildest dreams I don't think he will become that good).

Maurice Jnr - wowee!. At the start of the season my expectation was to see him improve his fitness and become involved consistently in games at VFL level. What a sensation he has proven to be. He already has the Tiger fans coming just to watch him. He has just turned 20! I am so excited by this kid. He is better than Shai at the same age. Let that sink in.

Sonsie is silk. 19 y.o and silk. Causing oppo coaches already to put time into him. Watch out with a preseason! He is probably my favourite and most watchable junior Tiger.

And last but not least Gibcus. Another 19 y.o. that has clear and prodigious talent. This kid will be a bona fide superstar. Alex Rance who?

We were right in it with most of our games, with a chance to win all of them in the 3rd or even last qtr, we just lost so many. That is the difference between a good side and a great side
Not sure if it has been reported elsewhere but the amazing thing is that we held the lead at some stage in the 2nd half of all 23 games we played.
I wonder if that has ever happened before to a side who lost 9 games ?

Pros: Finals achieved. Some very good kids blooded. Significantly less reliance on Dusty. Lynch having his best season with us. Growth of Bolton and Baker (and Ross to a lesser extent). No. 1 for points scored.

Cons: Should have made top 4, but lost all of the close games, some of them in farcical manner. Constant soft tissue injuries. Last in free kick differential. Lack of midfield/clearance depth. Defence giving away too many big scores. Disappointing seasons from the likes of Grimes, Balta and Castagna.
Good summary

Cheese Sandwich of a year. Played better, but poor game conversion. 1 x Draw, five losses @ 6 points or under including North, 1 x win @ 7 points.
Can't ignore the points scored in favour but you also can't ignore the inability to defend a lead/close out a close game. It was an obvious trend in 2022 and it wasn't successfully addressed. So RFC played both dangerous and soft in 2022 - if you were the opposition you would be very wary but always rate yourself a chance. Not such an unlikely outcome given our crop of youngsters and ageing/retiring veterans.

Did we win the flag, NO so imo itwas a failure.

We lost a lot of games by less than a goal (including a final). That reinforces it to me. If we were more composed we'd be well in the hunt for a flag this year.

Definitely a fail.

Def fail.

Thing that sticks out is we didn't beat anyone of note.
Maybe Coll although back then in Rd 8 they weren't on anyone's radar.
Bulldogs I don't rate. Same for BrisVegas.
The Blooze win was good although they didn't even make Finals.
Our overall wins were inflated by beating Hawks, EssenDoom, Wet Coke, and Power twice each for 8 wins.

Fail.

Hope we secure Quentin and Dennis as next year only gets harder playing Cants, Melb, Syd, Pies etc twice having finished in the 8.

Dusty staying,! The Chimp (great sage equal of heaven) and Jackmond going around again, and Timmy and Hoppy coming in the season can't end quick enough.
