This is not a thread about who is in your first 22, just a bit of an off season boredom breaker about who ISNT in your 22 and how you rank them.

I'm really excited to have a huge well of talent coming through our VFL system next year but we all know how tough it will be for any of them to break into the 1sts.

I have always had magnets on the side of my microwave which I constantly shuffle almost every time I pass. Fortunately there are now some really tough omissions!

ATM the magnets read:

Vlas Rance Astbury
Houli Grimes Edwards
Caddy Prestia Pickett
Reiwoldt Martin Lambert
Rioli Lynch Castagna
Soldo Cotch Graham
Nank Bolton Ross Stack

PROBABLES: Baker(love his tenacity), Broad(plays tall and small) and to lesser extent Short(his long kicking and run n gun style) and Cholly(versatile tall) are all worthy omissions.

POSSIBLES: Balta, RCD, CCJ, DES and Naish are my next cabs off the rank. These are the guys I'm excited about and who I feel are on the cusp of selection.

IMPROBABLES: Macintosh (field kicking), Higgins (injured), Turner, Cumberland, Dow, Markov, Martyn, HRS, Miller, Nyuon and Garthwaite. These are the magnets that sit off to the side because they might need development, are injured or simply an unknown.

IMPOSSIBLES: Aarts and English. The dreaded Gong. I'm not saying this category isn't worthy, just that I can't see a current position. My brother calls them his 'Red Button' players who he would only use in an Extreme Emergency!

These lists are in constant flux even over the off season so aside from your Best 22, who are your Probables, Possibles, Improbables and Impossibles?

Baker is in the round 1 side. He plays before Ross every day of the week.

Ross is a bonafide mid. I don't see them as interchangeable. For me Baker is competing with the likes of Stack, Houli, Rioli, Castagna, Short, Bolton

Its a thread about who is'nt in YOUR first 22 and how you rank them not about who I rank in my evolving off season first 22 :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Out of those that don't make your first 22, who are your Probables vs Possibles?

...or is that too hard?

Turner is the one who I think will surprise us in 2020. Doesn’t turn 19 until Boxing Day and showed plenty at times in 2019.
Moves nicely with good pace, can get the footy and kicks it really well. Similar player to Naish who I also rate highly

2021 is the year im expecting Turner / Naish / Balta / Ross / RCD to all be really pushing the senior players out and taking their positions
But we do have alot of exciting kids developing in the 2's the way they should be developed and come into the seniors in their 3rd years

Hawks used to do this and i remember thinking my god what is this club a 'Factory' where do they get these new players that are ready to go straight away.

I agree on Turner. The signs there look really promising and we don’t have a pure wingman on our list at the moment (probably not a bad thing in the modern game).

Naish has quite a queue in front of him in 2020 because at the moment he looks like a flanker, forward or back, and we have a heap of those types.

I think maybe both need another year. A successful 2020 would be 5 games leading into a good preaseason at the end of next year.

For me, I think you’ve nailed it.
I’d swap cholly and mcintosh.

Can’t argue with your team selection at all.
Stack and Pickett waltz into a duel Premiership team for no cost and minimum payment. Truely amazing when you think about it.

So Balta and Chol you're only Probables outside your first 22?

So Balta and Chol you're only Probables outside your first 22?

Didn't group them because they sit on a continuum and are forever moving up and down, e.g. Aarts was named in the squad for a couple of games this year. Was easier to look at it as a horses for courses problem.

Reckon the following will probably play senior footy next year: Baker, Higgins (health permitting), Ross, Broad, Balta, Naish.

Would've included McIntosh but the fact he was mooted as a possible trade might indicate others will get a chance before him. Also think Eggmolesse-Smith is ready to play, not sure how he's rated though. Chol knows what he needs to do and anything could happen.

Others are "possibles" for 2020 and a few of them will jump up and demand a game.

Reckon the club would like to see Collier Dawkins get a taste of AFL this year
Coleman Jones as well to get a few games

Biggie, Tall Back not forward for mine, one our biggest need, two where he has played quite a bit of his footy and three where he would prefer to be developed.

Agree I think they have him primed as a Tall Back could be swung forward if needed. Happy for him to hone his craft but really excited to see him in a few years.

Have heard whispers that Balta is struggling a little but on the plus side, RCD has returned in top nick and looking a different player.

Balta struggling No.
Balta needs to either find a spot on the wing or Half forward (aka Caddy) or he will make it a very easy decision at years end.
