Jaw 'sort of just hanging off'
by Lance Jenkinson.

A SICKENING off-the-ball collision involving Coburg Tigers
midfielder Ryan Pagab and a Port Melbourne opponent
has added to the club's woes following a humiliating 82-point defeat to the Borough in the Victorian Football League (VFL) at TEAC Oval last Sunday.

The tough midfielder and the on-field leader suffered a
badly broken jaw in an incident after a heavy shepherd behind play.

The result of the rough challenge saw Pagan's jaw broken in two places and he lost a couple of teeth.

After being operated on last Sunday night, the vice-captain is expected to spend six-eight weeks on the sidelines.

However, Coburg general manager Michael Roberts would not be supprised if he was out longer.

"Because of the seriousness of it, he broke in underneath on the right side and then up the top
near his cheek on the other side," Roberts said.

"It was quiet (sic) an ugly thing to see someone's jaw
sort of just hanging off."

No umpires reported the incident but the trial-by-video
charges are not laid until today (Tuesday).

If ther is no report made, the Tigers will contemplate
thei next move.

"We'll be having a look at the incident. We haven't sat
down as a coaching group to have a look at the incident,
but we will and if there's anything there we'll put it
forward to the VFL," Roberts said.

While the 25-year-old Pagan threw his body on the line
before his injury, there were a few passengers on the
Tigers team as the Borough ran rampant, winning all
contested possesion and making them pay on the scoreboard.

"We were just outplayed, we were second to the ball all
day," Roberts said.

Midfielder Chris Hyde, halfback Leigh Carlson and half-
forward Andrew Mills can hold their heads high on a
bleak day for the Coburg Tigers.
With the club having a bye this week, it is hoping to
organise a practice match against Springvale.

The likely venue is Punt Road Oval in Richmond but the
match is still to be confirmed.

Contact the club later in the week for details.

Gee that's terrible. Get well soon Ryan.
I wonder how Ryan would have gone if he'd played for any team other than North.
Maybe there's still time for him to have another crack at it yet.
Anyway hope it heals well and he's back on the field soon.
