Talking Politics

Considering it's been announced that multiple votes were cast by some people I reckon the last election should be declared null and void. Labor would certainly have a significant low light reel of the Libs time in power to use. I dreaded Abbott in charge but I never in my wildest dreams imagined how bad it could be. it frightens me that we mightn't have seen the worst of it yet.

I'd prefer the Libs dump Abbott and give someone with some sense of government put in charge.

Abbott is an effective opposition leader but unfortunately when you're the PM you can't be acting like an opposition leader.

I don't think the ALP have their house in order yet to take over the government. Not enough blood has spilled yet.

Interesting point about dumping Abbott, replace with Malcolm Turnbull he seems more moderate? What would it take for Abbott to lose the position?

Opinion Polls

What about the outcome of the Vic and SA elections this year. If the Libs get hammered, do you think this could impact on the polls for Abbott?

Could be a long wait then. The LNP will hang tough and try to buy-in with handouts at the next election, using Merde-ocks backing to the hilt. There'll be a lot of damage done in the meantime.

It's a pretty poor choice but I struggle to think of any areas we've improved in under the Libs. I can think of plenty we've hit lows in though.

Agree. Same same. That's why I'd prefer a new Lib leader to see what they could do. It's the only viable unknown for now.

How can you be sure that in a party room vote Barnaby wouldn't get up?

I'm not sure of anything, but I would hope if the Libs had to change leader due to bad polling, they would be smart enough to change to someone how isn't a mini-me.

Not a lot to pick from there. When the PM knocked off Turnbull the rest fell in lock-step behind him. Hard to imagine any of them having a truely original thought other than Malcolm and Barnaby. Not that there are stars on the opposition benches. I am alone in my love of Conroy, can't resist an angry man in horn rim glasses. I wonder what his rendition of Dr Worm would be like? Tania Plibersek can hold her own but I'm not sure of her vision. I've no faith in Shorten...hmmm...future looks bleak.

Turnbull would turn the Libs into a completely different beast. He isn't an ideologue for starters, and there remains a silent majority who could be reasonably called moderates. The party would be well advised to look towards the star spangled banner to realise the damage a hardcore fringe can inflict. Bonkers would be an understatement, we've already seen the worst of Corey Bernardi, and there are others chomping at the bit, waiting to tear apart anyone and anything that doesn't accord to their warped sense of the world. Cut the snake at the head, get rid of Abbott, bring in Turnbull, and bring some decency back to the LNP.

and people still think things are different under different governments ::)

Unfortunately the Republic of Giardasia is but a figment of an Austrian imagination so we must cogitate on ways to improve the system we are in.

You don't though, you squabble over which bunch of lawyers should hold the coercive powers of government to advantage their benefactors.

I rate Penny Wong.

As to the Libs, nothing from their front bench is worth a damn

nah. The older I get the less I understand party politcs. I can't accept that a grown adult with what seems a good brain can tow a party line that is fundamentally opposed to their personal conviction. In truth I don't think Westminster politics is relevant any more.

I would say that is as good a summary of modern Westminster party politics I've heard. The next question is would I rather choose a bunch of economists?
