The RIP thread

Desmond Tutu RIP

a giant of a person
Played such a big part in the end of apartheid but after as well when he ran the truth and reconciliation commission which brought out so much of what happened during that time of South Africa’s history. What he did during apartheid would have taken a lot of courage as no doubt his life was in danger
Unfortunately for South Africa their leaders post Mandela and Tutu’s time have not managed to uphold their legacy.
RIP

Sidney Poitier, RIP.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner is, perhaps, my favourite film.

Or Boogie Nights. Or Jackie Brown. Or Starship Troopers. Or To Die For. Or...whatever classic I most recently watched. The list is endless. But Guess Who's... is always in the conversation.

To Sir, With Love would be close to mine.

What a great life he lived. Some real classics but I also really enjoyed a popcorn movie he did called Deadly Pursuit.

Can't go past In the Heat of the Night for Poitier.

Peter Bogdanovic gone too - loved the Last Picture Show and Paper Moon.

Brought a tear to the eye that did - the song, the clips, the characters, the story - great memories
Sad to hear. IMO, a great actor at the Sean Connery level. He made great films from 60s - 90s and that one was one of the best. Showed true London back in the 60s and a boost for Lulu's career. Along with the films already mentioned, I also enjoyed A Patch of Blue (blind white girl). Born African, let's not forget what this great man had to go through in the early years.
