   Tigers hit track
   by Brad Bishop

COBURG Tigers players returned from their Christmas
break last week and coach David Flood is happy with
what he saw on the training track.

"Things are running pretty well at this stage," Flood
said.

"We've got minimal injuries and all the guys had a
Christmas program they followed diligently so it looks
like we've got a good group of professional young men."

The tigers leapt straight back into the Monday,
Wednesday and Friday training sessions they were
conducting pre-season and will continue to do so
until the start of the VFL season.

One player there last week was Dean Talbot,
suggesting rumours that last years skipper will be
leaving the club are off the mark.

"Dean's hardly missed a training run and as far as I'm
aware he's playing at Coburg," Flood said.

While Talbot looks like staying, gone are two-time
best-and-fairest winner Kristian De Pasquale (Port
Adelaide, SANFL) and Simon Hart (East Burwood).

Big man Nick Butler is expected to head west with
De Pasquale, while Paddy Steinfort is still overseas.

Electric rover Garth Taylor has been linked to North
Ballarat.

The tigers are yet to complete their recruiting, with
Flood eyeing off several youngsters who were
overlooked in last month's rookie draft.

"We've still got a bit of work to do in that regard
(recruiting) but now that the rookie draft is held in
December there one or two that missed out there
we be able to get," he said.

Flood said Warren Carlyle, Eric Kuret, Ryan Pagan
and Leigh Carlson stood out on the training track
before Christmas, while Alex Ifailavic, Adam Cosham
and Travis Jorgensen have also made an impression.

I'm not sure what the arrangements are for this year. I've not
had the opportunity to go and have a look yet... Last year
they did some at Coburg and some at Punt Road.
But Coburg is probably still being used for cricket at the moment.

All I've heard about practice matches is that Spud said
they start in a week or two... last year, they included
Coburg and Richmond players (They'd have too) ...
mostly played at Princes Park as I recall. (One at Moorabbin when Dunc kicked 2 goals!)

I'm sure we'll get some info "just in time" on the practice matches.
I hope they're on weekends!

PS. Nice to have the Coburg jumper on display at vflfooty.com.

Cheers for the info! Williamstown play two Fridays in a row in late February, one against my club Port Melbourne, so I have had to organise a day off work. It seemed like strange fixturing to me, with many VFL players working during the week in their normal 9 to 5 jobs.

With regards to the header image on the vflfooty.com site, well im trying to figure a way to randomize the header, but have been unsuccessful so far.

rgds,
