Tigers pounce on Bullants.

RICHMOND-listed full-forward Jay *smile* (sic), from
Woodville-West Torrens grasped the ball for dear life
on his way to booting two goals for thre Coburg Tigers
in a morale-boosting nine-point win over arch-enemy
Northern Bullants last Saturday.

It was a local darby of sorts, as the neighbouring
Bullants from Preston travelled to City Oval in Coburg
and experienced the deafening Tigers' roar from the
opening siren.

Hungry for a win, Coburg came out with all guns blazing
to boot four goals to nil in the opening term to set up
a memorable victory against the team they had clashed with
on 128 other occasions.

It took Coburg to 66 wins, 60 losses and three draws
against the team they love-to-hate.

Burgers heat up for sizzling win.

COBURG Tigers were too strong for the Northern Bullants
on what was described as a "level playing field" in the VFL.

Tigers coach Paul Spargo said it was the first time in 2003
his team had enough quality AFL players to match it with the
opposition big guns.

"We had 14 listed Richmond guys and I think they had 16
listed Carlton guys, so pretty much we've only probably had
six or seven Richmond guys a lot of the time compared to the
other teams with 15 or 16."

Coburg shot out of the blocks kicking 4.5 to nil in the
opening term and it appeared as though the cellar-dweller
would go on to register a comprehensive victory.

However, when any Coburg sporting club meets their
equivalent from Preston, there is sure to be a fight until
the end.

The Tigers' lead was whittled down to eight points at three
quarter time, but an inner-belief helped the locals salvage
their eight competition points in what has been a horrible
season.

Four Richmond-listed players booted two goals including Adam
Houlihan, Royce vardy, Kayne Pettifer and Jay Schulz, while
Chris Hyde, Ben Holland and Marc Dragicevic were among the
best players.

Spargo said the win was due to his players' refusal to
concede defeat.

"The bottom line was the last few weeks we've been working
towards a win, our footy hasn't been too bad, our intensity
and effort has been really good.

"As a group at Coburg the guys have stuck together, obviously
in what has been pretty difficult times, but the players
have to really be admired at the way they've gone about it
and stuck at it.

"It wasn't the matter of anyone being a star player, it was
the fact we has 22 guys contribute for the majority of the
game that saw us win."

In more good news for Tigers fans, favourite sons Kristian
De Pasquale and Ryan Pagan are starting to stamp their
authority in matches following lengthy spells on the sidelines.
