Tyler Sonsie

Is it just me or are most tribunal outrages aimed Richmond players - Conca, Lynch, Mansell, Houli etc? And now a VFL player in Sonsie.

Outrage on the sonz is very disproportionate.

Looks like an attempted open hand to the chest,

And robbo calls it a potentially fatal king hit :rotfl1

Must be a slow news week: crows being incompetanced out of finals must have been banned?

Media coming for him quick smart.

3 weeks. They want the VFL to appeal.

Expect that today. Tiger player.

Will get his 5 such is the outrage.

I’ve lost track of the process, does the North player still get to give his evidence? If he says something along the lines of “I was mainly just shocked, the blow didn’t hurt me at all and after a minute or 2 I was fine and continued playing” would that have an effect on the tribunal’s decision?

Just imagine the outrage on here if the North player had thrown the punch.

There’s no way he had tried to “ strike” him in the jaw , if he was punching him his forearm/elbow wouldn’t have hit his chest .

2 weeks would have been fair , but I can understand 3

Yes, it was a complete coincidence his clenched fist hit the guy in the jaw first - clearly a legitimate attempt to forearm him in the chest, just got him ten inches too high with the fist first then complete missed the chest with the elbow/forearm.

Honest mistake

The McCartin clearing is a far greater travesty of justice next to the Mansell 3 week suspension.
No surprise though that these fecksticks focus on our young VFL player.

Breaks his jaw?

Nothing to see with McCartin.

Oh football act and yeah he ‘decelerated’ by 40% so all is good.

Mansell 4 weeks. Broad 5. Numerous suspensions on Pickett.

And Whateley starts with this in his ‘editorial’ this morning’ on Sonsie’s 3 weeks.

Nothing surer it goes to appeal and he cops 5-6.

Can’t believe he compared it to Gaff who got 8.

He would be happy with 8.

His name should be changed from Whateley to W****r.

** I agree it was a bad look.
Out of character, but that only applies to Mr Good Guy Sniper Stewart.

Look if he got 4 I think I would be ok with that. Poor by Sonz but comparing it to Gaff, if it was a Suburban footballer gets half a season, just riles me up a bit.

*** let’s not forget Dangerfield‘s clear elbow to knock out Nick in the 20 GF.
Fortunately Nick had a strong jaw.

Outrage when it’s a RFC player is beyond a joke now.

I don't believe anyone from Richmond is defending Sonsie's actions and clearly an error in judgement in the heat of the moment was made, however I sincerely hope the club and Tiger fans are able to embrace the young man, accept the mistake was made and move forward. Quite simply he is going to need that support more than ever now with the media witch hunt campaign underway. The chosen focus on the image of the North player laying on the ground leads other club's supporters expressing their outrage and adding more fuel to the fire.

The tribunal all season has confused everyone with outcome over action and variations in length of suspensions for seemingly similar actions with different outcomes so where is the vision of the North player back up on his feet and playing out the rest of the game to help balance out the equation?

Yes Whatelely's opening salvo was reserved for the manifestly inadequate suspension for Tyler Sonsie with the VFL MRP disregarding the minimum 5 week suspension on an incident reminiscent of the Gaff/Brayshaw punch where he was given 8 weeks and if it occurred in suburban footy in Gerrard's opinion he'd get half a season.
Now the AFL will spend the next couple of days challenging and rectifying for an appropriate punishment to fit the crime.

**Personally i think he should have got the 5 and taken the time to have a good hard look at himself.

I simply disagree and it’s got nothing to do with him been a tiger .

The second shot shows his arm completely bent , his fist is side on and it’s more of a pushing action, elbow in chest easily can have hand on jaw , silly move yes , happens every game , just executed poorly . Other thing is I don’t think Sonsie has showed any malice before ?

Sorry AA I can’t see this as the vicious punch to the head that it’s been made out to be , if it was no way the kid gets up straight away and plays .

Suspension for sure , on silly act alone , the more I watch it the more im convinced he was trying to punch him in the face .

The guy who Sonsie clipped certainly went down as if shot, he must've been watching Larkey the day before, what a diving, posing prick he is.

Wow again. Just watched the McCartin incident. He braced at the last second and effectively bumped him by turning slightly side on. What was different to the Mansell incident? The difference was Mansell was contesting the ball. Do I want to see McCartin suspended - no. But where is the consistency and fairness? One is a football act and the other ??

On Sonsie, a dumb, gutless and reckless act that deserved 3. Kermit with his typical overblown reaction. Funny how you've never heard him outraged at the manifestly inadequate penalties (and non-penalties) applied to Cats players. And there's been a litany of poor actions by Dangerfield, Hawkins, Stewart, Cameron.........all senior players who should know better. But he goes all-in on a first year player having a brain fade with no injury consequences. How anyone can be a fan of that disingenous snivelling rat is beyond me.

Yes. Prestia effectively missed two games as a result of Stewart hit, and probably cost Richmond the game. Sent him this

Hi Gerard
Would love to know what you think Tom Stewart would get this year for the Prestia hit?
I rate it a worse act than Sonsie’s - Prestia was totally vulnerable and on the back foot.
Outcome also worse. I don’t recall you advocating so strongly for that to be appealed?
Have things changed THAT much In a year?
Also Sonsie does not have the platform to express his remorse, sorrow and regret. He is a really good bloke and it was out of character,
Thanks

Exactly, 30 y.o Stewart with a platform to express remorse, Whateley content with 4 weeks. 20 y.o makes a blue, player plays on, wants 5 plus.

And I can say that without defending the Sonsie act. Its just the hypocrisy
