Tyler Sonsie

Geez, only a touch hysterical n over exuberant. Sonz didn't take to the bloke with a baseball bat FFS. Stupid n unprovoked act in hitting the bloke, but he didn't split him open, or concuss him. The bloke lay down for a moment stunned by the fact he'd been smacked, then got up and played out the game.
Severe impact was a massive call and so was five weeks or more. High impact and three was fair and reasonable, Sonz misses the knockout round and possible finals this year, or a couple of early games next year. That's a pretty large punishment for 3 seconds of stupid.
Really? Cmon now it’s an unprovoked punch in the face. How often do you see acts like that on the football field? Very rarely. Yes it was a split second decision and a stupid one at that but 3 weeks is quite lenient…

I always thought 5 weeks was over the top. To me he didn’t really hit him that hard to justify the original grading.
Stupid thing to do but personally I thought it was a 4 week act
The strange thing is I have watched Sonsie play in plenty of games in afl and vfl and never seen him do anything like that, I’ve often thought he needs more aggression.
It just seemed so out of character and I wonder what brought it on?

It will definitely be appealed.

The AFL needs the spotlight to be moved from Goal Post Gate.

Perfect outrage to get the public involved with. I am sure they would have put the call in to Fox to get them to pump it up.

Will go back to 5 within a day or two

Is it just me or are most tribunal outrages aimed Richmond players - Conca, Lynch, Mansell, Houli etc? And now a VFL player in Sonsie.

3 weeks. Lucky lad.

Tiger cops ‘woefully inadequate’ ban for violent strike

Young Tiger Tyler Sonsie has seemingly gotten off lightly for an ugly off-ball strike in the VFL that has been described as a ‘blatant act of violence’.

Did north look after him and say he exaggerated the impact to make sure it was a 50 or something?

Looks light. Can only assume the @lolNorf player getting up and finishing the match is what got the grading lowered.

It looked terrible, but the fact that the North fella darted through traffic and fired a handball to a teammate about 120 seconds later suggests it didn’t really land. That has to come into calculations.

Anybody else think Sonz may have been meaning to give a bit of a chest/collar bone hit and it slipped up to the head? Kind of looks like that to me.

Maybe if he put that much effort in going and getting the ball he would be playing in the seniors.

I think he had a bad ankle injury a year or two ago? Certainly needs a better run of luck or better management if its the same one. Persistant injuries test our emotions especially if the North guy said something. No excuses.

It was just after the 30 min mark, with not much time left in the game, and it is out of character so had a look at the replay.

As Sonsi disposes of the ball the North player tackles him high, and takes him to ground, should have been a free kick.

Sonsi wasn’t happy with the contact, and remonstrated. Rightly or wrongly, I don’t think Sonsi was expecting contact in that manner so late in a game that was pretty much done. When the North player laughed he snapped and went at him.

I don’t believe he meant to hit him in the head/face, more so across the chest, but it deflected from the chest/collarbone area and struck him higher than planned.

Odd that nobody remonstrated with Sonsi when it happened, and nobody had a go at him about it soon after, when the siren went.

I’m not making excuses for him but I reckon it’s been blown out of proportion. I concede it looked terrible on the replay so he’s probably very lucky, but I reckon he got about what he deserved… as it wasn’t the Barry Hall haymaker some are likening it to… hopefully he learns a valuable lesson… because regardless, it was dumb!

Hopefully we can win a couple of finals and he dosent miss much to the start of the season .

End of the day The Sonz got 3 weeks , is that fair or correct ? Well that’s up to each individuals thoughts as the MRP is more inconsistent then the weather.

I believe “71” has got away with one of the best acting performances since @tigertim played Romeo at the playhouse theatre , the closed eyes, the rolling and then the reawakening and bouncing back to his feet to play some fine footy …….shouldhave been a standing ovation
