Astbury has far more potential than Jaydn as of today. Quicker & much cleaner with his hands. Agree that JP has to mark the pill or that's all she wrote. For mine he looks very slow at this point in time. Maybe, he is still growing into his body ? I hope so but I have serious doubts.

Yep, was solid, must be mentioned that the ball wasn't exactly being delivered on a platter to Kennedy and co but more good signs from Astbury.

Agree CC. Really like his game.
Composure is the best word I'd use for DA. Another genuine footballer on our list who just seems to make the right decisions without thinking. Early days yet I think we have found another big piece of the puzzle here.

In my opinion Post at best hasn't improved, at worst he's gone backwards. My take on Astbury is that if he improves as a young player should, he'll be very important for us as early as next year.
Were you at Craigeburn yesterday?? Especially the second half?---have you seen the body development of this kid in 12 months?? Post will make it--just not sure which end of the ground!!

Played very well against class opposition. Thursty must be getting a bit worried as I don't see him coming in for Moore Mcguane or Astbury.

Big wrap on Astbury being sent to Josh Kennedy at the first bounce.

Not getting a lot of the ball yet but is not hurting us or allowing his man to hurt us.

Does the team things without thinking. Good sort.

For someone so composed and smart it puzzles me how he was available at pick 35?

Did he do his testing with a broken leg or something?

Apparently wasn't on anyone's radar, I remember Matt Burgan on the AFL website had him going in the mid 70s in his fantasy draft.

The other thing is he is an intelligent ,mature, professional young man. Sat with him at Club80 and found it hard to believe he was only 18

Oh East Melbourne!
Great pick by the club. Smart footballer who looks to have a big future. Needs to build his tank, but with his ability to play either end and his football smarts - he will be a crucial player for us

this guy is a beauty for all the reasons said above. Can make CHB his own. Lovely penetrating kick too.

I like Post as well as a forward. Reckon he can make it. Genuine pack crasher. Has compusure with the ball also I reckon. Hopefully his second year blues is just building his tank up and size at the same time.

I watched the game on the ABC and I have to say I was surprised at how big Post looked.

Did not even recognise the kid, he looks extremely promising!! We once lacked in the talls area, now we have:
Kel Moore, Mcguane, Astbury, Post, Griff, Jack, Will, Goo

Very confident David can fill a peg in the clubs future as a key back.
Has the tools for that position.

The recruiting staff deserve credit for plucking him where they did last year.

I watched it also and while it was the end of a long night I thought Post looked pretty average.

Stacked it on but looks a plodder even more than previously.

Possibly. I reckon we need give him a little time despite pace concerns. Not all talls make it straight away.

David Astbury will have a breakout game over the next few weeks where he announces himself to the world as a quality footballer.

They have had a few wins in recruiting of late. Plucking Nason out of the obscurity of playing SANFL reserves as a 20 year old and turning him into a player capable of holding down a spot in a AFL team for the first 12 games of his first season is impressive.

Webberley looks to have the goods as well.

BTW, the five players taken in the 2006 draft, Rievoldt, Edwards, Connors, Peterson and Collins have all been impressive on the field this year. Four years on that strikes me as a fair effort.

Correct. He has grown very large in the chest and shoulders area. Will take time to adjust to that. He definately has the tools to be CHF. Just give him time we will see a very good player IMHO
