Gees I liked what I saw tonight... his attack on the ball was sensational. A great kick, good decision maker and has S-M-A-R-T-S.

Give him a couple of years to get bigger, and he'll be a great foil for Jack and (fingers crossed) Griffo

for sure, still needs more experience and game time and body strength, but agree that his attack on the ball was good and one thing i've noted, he's got great agility and recovery time, when the ball hits the ground, he beats his man there and is very clean below his knees and with his kicking as well.

He looks like he is developing a nice physique, he moves well, he attacks the ball well, he attacks the man well. He appears a good kick.
He has the attributes to be a very good player. Hope he can fulfill that potential.

And the club has said he has very good leadership abilites around the place already.

I believe he will develop into a very, very good player for us. Extremely smart and skilled. Add his potential leadership abilities, wack some weight onto him and we will hopefully be very happy with him.

Yep, can play either end and has done so at school and TAC cup level...

Agree grumpy. Some are suggesting he be dropped again which I find a little strange after his efforts the other night.
Obviously he's not yet ready to have a massive impact on proceedings but thought he made pretty well the right choices every time the ball was in his vicinity.
He's clearly a natural footballer and everyone of these games he gets now will stand him in good stead later.
Persevere.

This kid has a lot of quality attributes which suprises me given how he was such an unknown and most tipped him to go very late in a weak draft (60+). When we got him at 35 I was unsure but at the moment very happy.

As already said by others, he's got smarts, clean skills, good marking skills, pace and most of all from all the little snippets you hear over the preseason about the kids, a real quality attitude to get the best out of himself and work hard (something Hughes never had amongst other things).

If you look at it on paper, he has as many quality attributes as Riewoldt. Will he be as good as JR? I hope so. He also has a good frame that he will be able to build muscle onto quickly. Not like JR who was a rake when he first came in and it's taken him a fair few years to get up to an acceptable playing weight in 93kg (probably needs 2-3kg more still).

Totally agree. Out of all of our 09 draftees he doesnt get mentioned a lot. But gee he is a smart footballer. Like you said he is a one touch footballer and reads the play beautifully. Could easily play as a CHB or CHF. Looks comfortbale in both areas of the ground.

I am pleased with the way Hardwick is developing Astbury. We saw in his first game that he has the ability to be a player and since then is given the opportunity to play in defence to learn the game. A couple of seasons in the gym and this kid will become a very versatile player.

When Astbury gets the ball he seems to be quite composed and he doesn't just deliver to the first option.

Seeing as Post did well and kicked a bag for Coburg, would be happy for Astbury back and Post up forward with Griffiths and Riewoldt with Nason/Nahas picking up the crumbs.

The way Astbury uses the ball will make him a great CHB when he fills out
and Post has played his best AFL football as a forward
