Trade Thread

I really think our VFL side would beat this year's Trade All-Stars by 15 goals? We may have to sit Jack Graham on TK.

Did Hawks and Cats fans watch trade week through the 00's with the same clarity as we are watching this?

Hugh Greenwood, Dougal Howard, Sam Frost

Connor Menadue* , Paddy Ryder, Grant Birchall

Brandon Ellis Cam E-Y Adam Tomlinson

Dan Butler Jono Patton James Aish

Eddie Betts Billy Frampton Darcy Cameron

Foll: Sauce Jacobs, Tim Kelly, Jack Steven

Coach: Stevie Nicks

* only had 21 players, sorry

Is it just me, or is there pretty much 1 (one) bloke in that whole side who isn't either finished or fringe?

It has become quite clear that TPP space is currency just like draft picks

On that point taking players on high wages dilutes the need to pay up big in draft picks

Examples of this are many, Scully, Paton, Jenkins ext.

As we are in a TPP squeeze, and also have a heap of improving players that are being offered better contracts, Stack, Pickett, Bolton, CCJ ect, the flipside of this is that any players we have contracted that are not playing seniors are being accomodated to find new homes, if they want them

Mcintosh, menedue, butler

It also means that players getting paid more than what they are worth like Bellis, are also allowed to leave

This is pure economics of having highly paid superstars like Rance, Lynch, Jack, Cotch, Dusty, Prestia and a fixed cap

I know this is last minute but does anyone know of any potential KPB options outside the Draft?

very true. i wonder if that has to do with the salary cap floor being a ridiculous 95%, meaning all the club have very little wiggle room? in 2019 there was only $650k between 95% and 100%.

Would he want to come over here to play in our VFL team and be injury cover for the senior team? Who does he push out of the senior team? I can't see him as best 22; he'd be lucky to be best 26.

I have always had the impression that he is slow. Running speed and decision making. He always looks like he is playing injured as well. Can’t say I have seen a lot of him though.

Is it just me, but until this trade period I assumed Brad Hill was just another ordinary Freemantle outside player.

Westralian reporting he will be getting $900k p.a. for five years. WTF is going on!

Great post eZy.

This trade period is a massive yawn fest for us. For the others it's a giant wank fest about what these duds are worth.

Yep ok to have a squeeze on our cap when it has delivered 2 premierships :), I pity, (no I don't), those that have cap pressure but nothing to show for it.

has Butler and Menadue found new homes yet? I would not be disappointed at all if Connor was still in the Yellow & Black next year. His form in the back half of the VFL season was very good. As we saw this season, our list is getting older and deep depth will be paramount to us winning flags moving forward

Yep sure beats having a cap squeeze because we over paid Ben Holland & Kane Johnson!

He may stay yet IMO if they get Acres and Aish today.

Hope so. Otherwise we are looking at a situation where our team will possibly lose Brandon Ellis, Connor Menedue, Dan Butler, Jack Higgins & possibly McIntosh in one off season, & receive effectively nothing useful in return, especially in terms to help us win a premiership again in 2020. it will hurt our VFL team for sure & i do think their success helped the club create the 'winners' culture that seems to be paramount to our success and culture.

Reckon we might still try and get involved in a pick swap with the Giants. Even if they trade Bonar for a 2nd (say the Bombers 31) they will still be short of points for Green if he is bid on at the mooted Pick 5.

I could see us swapping one of our 38,39,41 for their 2nd next year.

They say next year's draft is going to be the most compromised draft in the history of the game so far.

Out of the possible top 40 draftees next season, 17 are already tied up to clubs, with the academy and father and son.
Plus its regarded as a weak draft.

Challenges create opportunities. We may have one of the changes of a lifetime next year if we stock up on lower picks (2nds, 3rds and 4ths) as there will be heaps and heaps of clubs looking to trade down the order for greater points. Our lowly picks suddenly become so much more valuable. We might be able to score some extra 1st rounders out of that.

There are always good players in all drafts, its generally how deep they bat in those drafts. I'd prefer to be able to trade up next year for better picks, giving others points and try to snag a few more picks in the 15-25 range on top of our Pick 18 next year.
