Draft picks 2019

Biggie No-one, a Saints next gen academy kid. That's three bids we've made n no-one bothered to match, hope we know something that they don't.
Gunna be a heap of time, work n fingers crossed getting this young fella up to standard, hope it works.
It’s interesting the academy bids we made and got. Brisbane and Saints have been developing the kids for years but didn’t rate them highly enough to match our bids. We’ve obviously seen something they haven’t. Happy to back our guys over theirs.

Lemme just type a list of players off the top of my head that no one gave 2 sheizens about. Lambert. Pickett. Baker. Soldo. Grimes. Broad. George. The runs are on the board guys. No choice but to back our team in.

I am so glad we didn't pick Bianco. Short, Higgins, Baker - we are already one of the shortest teams running around. We needed to share the short players around.

Thats whats baffled me, more so now.

3 players in other clubs Academy's , we bid, they didnt match, we take .

Will be following these kids with interest in the coming years.

We back our team of recruiters and developers to bring their talents out.

Understand Western.

Why didnt at least the Lions match?
Both picks?
They didnt rate them but we did ?

I'm not totally up on the points system but Brisbane matched a bid by Essendon at 37 so maybe they didn't have the points left to match our bids. Or maybe they just had a higher priority player. Their next pick was a defender.

Good question. I have no idea however they only had 59 left.

Upside folks, this draft was all about taking a punt on perceived upside of players who possess the core traits we look for.

Possibly you are right there Tigerlove.

Here’s something that I haven’t seen mentioned elsewhere, but I think is right and is pleasing - the round 2 pick we took from Collingwood isn’t the one tied to their finishing position (they’ve already traded that out). It’s one tied to St Kilda, which means it may well move us about 10 spots up the order.

Drafted mostly project types requiring a couple years development. Thinking we might write ourselves off for the draft next year, take Rioli and trade picks for 2021?

We got mabs from Bris academy, the fella they matched, forget his name, didn't make it

Edit, reuben William, remembered. Also did we bid on hipwood? Bit of history there.

I hope Hugo Ralphsmith can play. With that name I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned up for his first day wearing a tweed jacket and smoking a pipe.

He almost qualifies for the hyphen club but as Tony Braxton Hicks previously pointed out, it’s not an easy club to get into

Yep, i don't give a stuff about ranking points or draft points, if there is a player that have Richmond Man traits or needs as in Bigoa Nyuon, (who is hail Mary key defender which is glaring future deficiency), then I am all for it, we can afford to take risks on potential no need to stock up on dime a dozen midfielders if they are not top end.
