DRS has a serious problem with height on the LBs. NO way that Patto one was going over the stumps, let alone by the distance DRS said

The Poms are being test against South Africa, 2/25 after SA got 284 in their 1st dig. Root looked terrible headbutting a ball from Rabada, he wasn't hurt though.

II thought the same but the side on replay looked like the line it showed was spot on. Easily over the top.

Paine was playing forward and hit just above the roll; Taylor was caught on the crease and hit in the same spot, and DRS says the trajectory was six inches higher for Taylor.

Maybe DRS was right but if so, they should consider moving the TV cameras as those decisions were confounding to the naked eye.

I didn't see Paine's but I'd say the impact point is a pretty minimal factor compared to the height of the bowler, speed, release point etc and even how old the ball is.

Yes, I accept those things. It's possible that Wagner's skidded through whereas Pattinson's popped a little, off similar lengths.

The thing about Paine's is that it also appeared to be outside the line, or at least line-ball. I don't think any umpire could've been certain Paine was hit in front in real time.

The tendency is for DRS to dismiss appeals that look strong to the naked eye, so I can more readily accept the Taylor decision. Not sure it's healthy for it to be working the other way.

Tim Paine flags DRS concerns following day two decisions

"I thought from the length that it pitched and the bloke bowling around the wicket, it's pretty difficult to hit you in line and hit the stumps," Paine told ABC Grandstand.

"I think it pitched about seven metres and still hit halfway up.

"Then you get one late tonight which the guy's stuck on the crease, he's hit really full and it's going over.

"It's disappointing and it makes me angry."

When asked whether he had complete faith in the system, the captain said he wasn't convinced the results were spot on.

"I've got a few doubts about it, no doubt about that," Paine said.

"I won't go into it too far because I'll get in trouble.

"But I'm just seeing time and time again, what I see to the naked eye, or watching it on television in real time, and then what it comes up as is sometimes a little bit off the mark."

Paine and the Aussies need to stop sooking up all the time about DRS. The system is not fool proof but is pretty good (despite my annoyance at the height issue).

The Kiwis deserve more criticism for sending the Aussies in.

Reckon they must have the AFL bunker review mob running the cricket DRS system at the G. Kiwi batsman who got hit on the glove band n then the arm guard given not out. Phhhhht reckon Gilligan n Shocking might be trying to teach the cricket board how to even up the contest a bit.
Wouldn't have minded us declaring n having a half hour or so at the Kiwis this evening. But there's nothing like grinding an opponent into the turf when you get the chance n scarring a few of their boys for future games. Bat for another session tomorrow morn, tire them out mentally just that little bit more n then pound the *smile* out of them while they try to bat for five sessions or chase down 500 plus runs. Nothing worse than trying to push *smile* up hill with a pointy stick and then having to try n regroup n do it all again a few days later.

The Aussie bowlers are a super outfit but I just cannot warm to this team.

Paine's incessant banality behind the stumps is boring, he lacks any sort of intelligence or charm. Smith's mannerisms are annoying (bordering on opposition baiting) and now Marnus L is unfortunately adopting them. Wade reminds me of some dopey American pit bull. Pattinson is another gormless bogan fast bowler (but good luck to him to come back from the injuries he is a talented fast bowler) . I've never enjoyed much of Lyon's antics despite him being a very decent bowler.

Cummins seems a genuinely decent guy. Starc is harmless as is Burns. Head is likeable enough.

For me it's probably a good thing we only have a light test schedule in 2020 until the Indians come here next summer which should be a cracking series.

Congratulations to Peter Siddle who has announced his retirement from International Cricket.
He has been a real heart and soul player, who got the very best out of himself.
It was a great achievement to be in the squad and then make a good contribution in the recent Ashes series, all at the ripe old age of 35.

Well played Sids :clap2

That whinging, whining, harping carping NSW commentator with the ABC-Jim Maxwell will not be happy. Justin Langer just said that the MCG pitch was a great test wicket. Maxwell was desperate for the pitch to be no good, the old fool should give it away.

They’ll never take it away from the G. 200,000 + people in 4 days. No other cricket ground in the world can do that. It galls Maxwell that Melbourne beat Sydney in anything.

It galls him alright, he can't open his mouth without dribbling about the MCG pitch
He’s irrelevant. His only attribute is longevity. Can’t remember him ever saying anything insightful.
On a positive note. I enjoyed the work of the former (female) leg spinner (Christian Dean?). Reads the game well.

The Strikers opening batsmen, Salt is peppering the boundaries, 39 from 15 deliveries. It looks like a belter of a pitch at Marvel Stadium.
