They looked like for 2 quarters they needed a break.
Will get one and get ready for the Cats.

Good point, that's Alot of games. We probably shouldn't be so harsh on the team.

Loved the last quarter - tigers changed gears and smashed the game in the end.

The most frustrating thing for me was the first quarter - we had the game on a string and should have killed it then. It has been a bit of a pattern this year so hopefully we can rectify it soon.

Lambert and Grimes come in next week

Shedda and possibly Astbury the week after.

Prestia for first finals

That’s our kicker and this team has got us positioned perfectly.

Commentators tonight were ok I thought. It was odd early that they were pumping us so much and it opened it up for the upset angle (plus the game was pretty boring so they needed something). Some of Dunstall's commentary around poor umpiring decisions was pretty odd. Fyfe gets a pretty good run from the umps so not sure what Longmuir was on about.

I'm pretty sure everyone in the competition knows the plan to beat the flood because there is only one. The catch is it is a very effective tactic so hard to beat and it lines up well with our strengths.

The 'plan' is:

1. Move the ball fast enough to beat the defenders back. Unfortunately we like to roll an extra back and go one down at stoppage so that is hard to do when we lose clearance often.

2. Take contested marks deep forward. A really hard thing to do at any time, let alone with numbers back.

3. Create enough repeat entries to disorganise the defence, and up the odds of a mark or free kick by sheer weight of numbers by setting up well behind the ball and not risking a fast play from the opposition with shallow turnover. Takes time and patience, needs precision foot skills and relies on the opposition becoming disorganised which they may not, especially under shorter quarters with reduced fatigue.

So it may look like we are mindlessly bombing the ball but really what we are doing is taking option 2, denying the opposition the chance to score by trying to hit up a pass in shallow 50 that can result in a scoreable turnover for the other team.
Good post.

Teams can flood all they like coz they deny themselves scoring more than they deny us. We'll just set up and keep bombing it in long until we take a contested mark or a crumbing goal. Reckon it's part of our game plan to get it in deep and not go shallow unless there's an obvious option. Watched our fwd line closely and we very rarely had a leading option in the 50 with our key fwds staying deep.

The problem is there's bombing it in and then there's bombing it in to the right spot. You can't just bang it to the loose man all the time which we seem to do regularly when teams flood. You have to be able to bring the ball to ground.

Yeah it's been a pattern of our play in the flooding games. We keep bombing it to an outnumbered contest; often 3-1 against.

Our forwards do seem to get blocked off the contest a lot which doesn't help. Very rarely given a clean run at it. Need to come in from the sides maybe rather than the back of pack. That's where Castagna used to be so effective at bringing it to ground, he'd cannon into the pack from the side

LOL at The Age's writeup. On Martin v Fyfe at the opening bounce: "Between them, the pair have won three of the last five Brownlow Medals and two of the last three Norm Smith Medals."

Um, between them they've won two Norms? Or just Dusty alone?

And this is a very low bar:

"He's the star key forward that continues to float under the radar, particularly in Victoria. But Freo's Matt Taberner keeps on keeping on in 2020, continuing a streak in which he has kicked at least one goal in every game, no mean feat in any team but especially playing for the lowly and defensively-minded Dockers.

"Taberner proved a major handful for emerging Richmond defender Noah Balta, and threatened to haul his side back into the contest, only to be let down by some wayward kicking for goal. But the Bright product has become a seriously good player. He's due to be a free agent at the end of next year, and a host of Victorian clubs would be mad not to be asking questions about luring him back to his home state."

He only scored one goal! That puts him on par with KMac.

I reckon the 5 I listed will come back in but not Caddy. Who goes out, don’t ask me but Dow is the obvious one (for Prestia), add Broad for Grimes, Higgins for Edwards, Aarts for Lambert and Astbury perhaps Markov but then I reckon Dimma will want to mix it up a bit also so great position to be in
