LOL at The Age's writeup. On Martin v Fyfe at the opening bounce: "Between them, the pair have won three of the last five Brownlow Medals and two of the last three Norm Smith Medals."

Um, between them they've won two Norms? Or just Dusty alone?
Well then, between me and dusty we’ve won 2 flags, 2 norms and a Brownlow.

That is one of the most ludicrous things ever written, even for footy media. Hang on, I like it! Between Tigersnake and Dustin Martin they have won two of the last 3 NS Medals! :flush

I said at the start of the week, beating freo wouldn't be easy.
Not sure why now we are in Queensland the entire playing group should be alowed to train together instead of 4 different groups.
Our game style going from midfield into forward 50 is below par.
Why McIntosh and Pickett are left for that last kick has me bamboozled.
Where's Houli or Short?

I knew we were going to have a poor game as soon as I heard king repeatedly pumping up our tires. It was a snore fest. I recon he put the whole team to sleep. I enjoyed dimmas bake at 3 quarter time a lot.

We're consistently coming out hard and putting teams on the back foot, even if not putting it all on the scoreboard. Will be interesting against Geelong, whose 3rd & 4th quarters are #1 and #2 in the comp.

Our intensity and energy levels were down which was expected after the trip to darwin and the finals like game last week. our players took the foot off the pedal and wanted a less intense win. Cranked it up when needed.

Our engine room - Cotch bolton dusty nank soldo all took the night off.

9 days now to build up the energy levels to hit geelong with.

Expecting a big game from cotch to set the tone against the cats mids and the rest to follow

What a weird night at the footy tonight. Players were flat. But, to be honest, I can't blame them. I felt flat too. In fact the tiger crowd seemed flat. FFS, the Freo supporters were louder at stages.

The Eagles game was so good. We played out of our skins. I was so proud. I have had my eye on the handbaggers game for a while now. Friday night. I've booked accommodation at the casino
Going to be a big night and I hate that flopper mob with a passion. I reckom Freo was the thorn between two roses and it was difficult for everyone to give a *smile* about them.

Nearly caused our downfall but I always felt we had the game in our grasp. I was always confident we would win. We just know how to flick the switch when it is absolutely essential

Someone seems to say this every week but every commentator in the history of commentating has always barracked for the most interesting result which is a close game and in games like those it means an upset.

The commentary was terrible tonight but we have to accept that when you are a strong team, most weeks the commentators are hoping like hell your opponents keep the game close enough to be interesting.
It's funny, I didn't think the commentary was that bad, and hasn't been that bad for the last few weeks. Maybe I'm just comparing everything to the disgrace that was the Port Adelaide game. Compared to that I think every commentator is positively loves us

Last week was tremendous and this week was a letdown in comparison. Gotta really deal with that Cat mob next. You can bet your bottom dollar Dusty will get another hard tag.

Quiet game from Nank.
You are a master of understatement, W.
Given equal HOs but Soldo had far more disposals relatively, to my surprise, I think we need to look at bringing Chol back in for the Cats. Especially if Stanley is still out and Fort in. He offers something far different, especially up forward where his size, spring, speed and mobility, creativity and finishing ability is the X factor our FL needs. Too often a gang of 3 tall backs just feast on spoils there. Cats run with a big backline, so suits for Chol in the air.

Might even provide more opps for our SFs.

To be clear, we were never going to lose this game.

You could tell straight away in the last quarter. Our pressure suddenly went through the roof.

No one can go with us.
You actually can't say this when we have NOT beaten Geesook, Aints or Poort at least. GWS also but very unlikely to make finals now. Even Hawthorn smashed us early in the season. Finals are a whole new game; WCE could come out and reverse that result if we aren't at our best.

I just get a bit tired of the over-confidence on PRE. Of course we could have lost this game; if they kicked like the Bummers did against us, if we did not lift finally in Q4 after Dimma ripped into them. I prefer to go with what he often says: it's a tight, tough competition and if you're 10% off your game, anyone get over the top of you.

If anyone thinks we have this flag in our traveling kit for return to Victoria, they're just kidding themselves. Forgotten 2018 already?

The bombing into the forward line business, I'm starting to wonder if there is a reason for this that we all dont see.. Although its ugly & the games stay closer than we would expect, we win every time. The opponents are rarely able to transition quickly the other way, & rarely our opponent kicks more than 7 goals. Its an ugly snooze-fest, but it feels like we are doing it to NOT take the bait the opponent is trying to set up to create a turnover and rebound the other way.

When we play an opponent who is prepared to not flood us, the bombing it long habit disappears and we go back to being fairly effective from the fwd 50's. Its not a problem so much as its a tactic.

When we are being flooded and we bomb it in - although our fwd efficiency drops away - our defensive efficiency rises by a higher level as we are able to set up behind the ball for the possible rebound. The entire game is played in our half. Percentage wise it means our opponent has next to nil chance of outscoring us.

Dimma has shown before he will commit a lesser crime to ensure we successfully get a better result somewhere else. Much like when we were giving away 50's alot in 2017 & 2018 to hold the player up, it meant we were able to set up down back quicker.

I was thinking along the same lines , on most occasions they prevent us flogging them , but dont pose too many threats ,

We almost seem content to just put it at that end of the field over and over away from harms way , take the points and move on

Just watched Longmuire's presser.... I'm calling old man Fagan out.... is he your long lost son?
Shoulda Woulda Coulda.... ya didn't win!

Yeah I got the Fagan vibe as well. Scored 16/29/32 against Geelong/Richmond/West Coast and his gameplan is frying their second-best player (Walters) because scoring is an afterthought.

Last year they sacked the coach after Freo beat five of the finalists. This year, 14th-oldest team sits 14th. Unless defence is the first plank in a developing gameplan, I'm not seeing the upside.

4 games in 16 days will do that.

Glad we have a bye.

Freshen up for our assault on the Cats.

And this is a very low bar:

"He's the star key forward that continues to float under the radar, particularly in Victoria. But Freo's Matt Taberner keeps on keeping on in 2020, continuing a streak in which he has kicked at least one goal in every game, no mean feat in any team but especially playing for the lowly and defensively-minded Dockers.

"Taberner proved a major handful for emerging Richmond defender Noah Balta, and threatened to haul his side back into the contest, only to be let down by some wayward kicking for goal. But the Bright product has become a seriously good player. He's due to be a free agent at the end of next year, and a host of Victorian clubs would be mad not to be asking questions about luring him back to his home state."

He only scored one goal! That puts him on par with KMac.
From a questionable free kick

Game was very much in the balance at three quarter time. We’d been terrible - combination of lack of effort & not placing enough importance on clearance/contested ball. Our ruck play was terrible & didn’t help. Soldo was a shadow of the player that did so well on Natanui. Last quarter we at least broke even at contest & played like we should. Huge game next week & need to bring our best, including effort from the first bounce.
