Game Day - Richmond vs Brisbane - QF 2020

I would argue Dusty had more chance of kicking it than Castagna. But not alot went right for us tonight. Brisbane deserves some credit for the pressure they applied. We just rely now, so much on Lynch in the side. He takes 1st backman giving Reiwoldt more free reign and they know how to play each other's patterns.

Really felt sorry for Nanks tonight. Played 91% game time which is simply too much. McInerney played 78% and Martin 62%. Ruck is a huge issue for us with no reasonable backup.
Do we move Balta up the ground and help out nank in ruck.

our worst player this year by miles..has done nothing and did nothing tonight once again....yeah chol was awful...bolton was deplorable with his selfishness but lambert was completly invisible.....must surely be dropped

Must have had your eyes closed if you think he was invisible. The problem was he wasn't getting his usual ball out the back of the stoppage from the forward handball that he receives, he was in close in the contest. 19 possessions at 79% is hardly invisible.

I reckon the first 5-10 of the 2nd cost us SA, we were dominating and couldn’t even get a snap on goal , normally we’d get 2or 3 in that period of dominance, should have been 4 goals up and ripped there hearts out
Yep. Lynch is there and the goals would have happened.

Jack was constantly outnumbered and we just couldn't get the ball to drop to any of our smalls.

Brisbane's defence held up well.

We played poorly, one man down, no rub of the green and got close. If we have to loose a final, this ones it....as Dimma says....if were not winning, were learning. Lets see if we can still do it.

Just quietly, folks.

We’re on the right side of the draw now.

West Coast can do anything, likewise Collingwood on their day.

Port are a team of blue collar bruisers. Like Melbourne but with ticker.

We can beat them. With the right selection and structure.
I think we will win next week but not sure we can beat Port over there with them having the week off

Still a big ask Carter.

Every needs to go right for us to get there.

How Chol was selected after last week’s game is disgraceful and a blight. I love the Tiges but tonight we’ve totally blown it and our season is over if we make it to Port! Poor form by the boys and not helped by the laughable umpires! It’s been a good run but we’ve been too conservative with selection . Lynch said he was right to go but we’ve kept him back for the prelim , and this may have cost us another flag .

It was a strange game all round I think. We were not cohesive all night.maybe recent changes to the line up affect team balance more than we think. I think we are carrying our small forwards this year and Astbury back has affected the structure a lot. (Yes chol was awful and we were undisciplined and the umpiring sucked too)
This is a good post. I agree re Astbury. Saw signs of the defence being more unbalanced in the Adelaide game too, when Dave came back. Not sure why or how - but its just mucked up the connection or all the backline. During the Adel game, I thought it was just Balta being unsettled with Dave back - more about where does he play - but far more obvious tonight. Incl Flossy and Grimes.

A few players had poor games. Marlion, the 3 forwards, Houli, the defence as a collective. Too much just for Nank with no genuine ruck support. Forward line went back to being the frustration of earlier this season - with all the I50s being wasted.

Brisbane wont beat Geelong.
Not sure how it will work but we need Broad and Caddy back.

I'd have to agree with this re Astbury. Something just doesn't feel right down there with both the talls. We played the whole year with just one, with Balta being excellent on his own. Maybe we're a bit top heavy now? Feels like we're better with the extra runner in Markov or Broad. I was surprised one of the talls wasn't thrown forward and Chol thrown in the bin in the last quarter. Had to change something up.

Yeah was never really questioned, we just stuffed him back in there. Thought he was OK individually but the backline wasn’t the weapon it has been. As a result we struggled to generate the chains of play that we created in last year’s QF.

I like Balta getting the oppositions main man, his proven he can out mark not just spoil and also gives great rebound for us when they try to go through there main man , I’m not saying DTLD shouldn’t be there it’s just his moved down the rung a spot .
