Game Day - Richmond vs Brisbane - QF 2020

Better to have our deficiencies shown up now rather than in a Prelim or GF. Some of our guys were getting a bit arrogant this year like flossy in the change rooms with Chol and yesterday in the captain's run he was mucking about trying to stir up Jack but Jack ignored him. May be nothing in it but could also be signs of disunity in the group due to the long season, hub life, who knows.

Lambert getting a free pass here. Has been putrid all year. How many poor games before any scrutiny on him??
Highly disappointing all year. Head scratcher as he has been mr reliable week in week out three years prior. Think his kms are still high but everything else is patchwork.

Worth trying Balta in Alex's role so Astbury and Grimes go back to the roles they had in 2017? The other backs are all vertically challenged but needed for their other attributes.

.i dont think asto should play next week....no spring, agility or acceleration...basically his legs have lost condition.
.likewise prestia for that matter....
.loose opposition destroys the morale of ur stars....exhibit A dusty after half time.

I reckon the first 5-10 of the 2nd cost us SA, we were dominating and couldn’t even get a snap on goal , normally we’d get 2or 3 in that period of dominance, should have been 4 goals up and ripped there hearts out
We had similar periods throughout season dominance but not scoring. Got away with it v lowly teams. Not tonight.

We should have moved Grimes off Cameron was taking him up the ground so Grimes couldn't do his job 3rd man up and intercept Vaustin or Baker should have gone with him to.

We usually do that? Why did it change tonight? Not one of Dimma's finer games I believe; both pre and during the match.

We tend to not change teams too much but I can’t see how we can play all 3 of Aarts, Castagna and Rioli next week. Rioli may have saved himself with a couple of goals but Aarts was poor and Castagna hasn’t had a decent game for quite a while now.

Cause or effect? How many balls got spilled into situations they can create chances from?

Not many. Any high balls forward were either marked by the opposition or Andrews punched to the boundary.

A simple swap of Tom for the paltry Mabs is all that's needed to keep the 3 smalls up front that is needed. Now is not thew time to throw out a formula that has worked for 4 years because of a pathetic aerial tall performance.

Only silver lining tonight was no more injuries and some game time into Prestia. If we play the Saints, not playing Chol means Lynch has to pinch hit in the ruck or Nank plays 100% in the ruck. This could work against the Dogs, but tough against the Saints two rucks. Hard to keep Cholly after tonight though, uncompetitive. Urgh. Really want a crack at the Port maggots over here, aint gonna be easy next week though... maybe they beat the sh*t out of each other tomorrow, that would help.

Agree with that. More of a problem was lack of aerial strength around the ground. Chol struggled to make a contest. Jack too. Lynch missed.

I pointed out we had become a poor marking team long time ago. Dimma and club went OTT on SFs and now they are nowhere to be seen ... except the best one we gifted to the Aints. (Now we might off-load Higgins too who we took when T.Kelly was still there to get the Moggs 2 x 1st rounders. The excess in SFs has really cost us and will cost us further).

Other sides SFs seem much harder at it than ours anyway.

I have hated the shorter quarters all year. Scoring is an all time low, too hard for any teams to score goals. You might get 1 good qrt of scoring then it just dries up.

Couldn't agree more. Feel short-changed even when watching neutral matches on TV. By Round 1 it'll be 18 months since I've attended a game and I just may decide it's easier (safer ?) to keep following on TV. Don't mess with it, Gil.

Yeah, but Gil wants you to watch on the TV, more money in TV rights than gate takings.

Sometimes I feel like decoration for the TV coverage when I go to games.

Trouble is, you stop getting the big crowds and you end up like the NRL, too reliant on TV just for survival.

Well he can keep his fake crowd noise turned on and I'll frighten the neighbours instead. If you're alienating the rusted-ons, you're doing it wrong. The game can't survive without live spectators.

Many thousands have forfeited their membership fees this year, and if he shortens the game then I'd consider it stealing from the public. You can only push people so far.

Round 1 was the highest-scoring round of the year, followed by Round 2. The coaches have adjusted and focused their pressure, making scoring tougher. If you multiply this year's scores out to compensate for shorter quarters, the average is 151ppg, down from 160, 166, 178 the past three years. Get down to 140 and it'll be the lowest scoring since the 1920's. Maybe it's the northern conditions, but the play itself isn't better for it.

We're already back to mid-60's scoring when John Peck won a hat-trick of Colemans on muddy grounds with tallies of 69, 68, 56.

Problem for the end of the season, but he had better not do this. Sack Hocking instead.

Yep, I agree, the TV rights won't be worth much if all the fans turn off.

Must stop the morons in the AFL shortening the game. To be honest I don't get how they can argue not enough goals but we should shorten the game. Idiocy.

I think the hope was that shorter quarters would "concentrate" the action and lead to higher scoring (pro rata) and more exciting play. Round 1 173ppg, Round 2 166ppg, all good. But it's been downhill from there. Round 11 onwards - 145ppg.

After a horrible sleepless night with the wind howling I’ve come to the thought that this is the game to lose.

Reminds me of the last round against the Dogs in 2018 where we just got over the line. Needed a wake up call then. We got ours last night. Hope the boys learn from it.

The opposition will scrap with us and umps will pay it against us 90% of the time. Don’t get me started on gifting Lions a PF for QLD saving the season BS...

Short quarters need smarter footy. We played dumb and undisciplined last night.

We lost on the back of no scoring options.
Cotchin goes inside 50 and kicks it to space,
I lost count how many times Pickett absolutely butchered it.
Flappers and Edwards disappeared after qtr time.
Prestia looked rusty.
Can't understand why we needed Arts Rioli Castagna Lambert and Bolton.

and Zorko throws it straight after, nothing to see here, play on.

Brisbane get a free in the 1st quarter when Robinson didn't even tackle Vlastuin, we tackle, they drop or throw it, nothing.
Infuriating.
