Always hoped it would ”click” however after he’s form in the second half of last season the jury was in for me, hope he can turn it around , however I think he’s going to be nothing more then a good VFL player for us.

Mabs was the biggest disappointment of the day for me. Was given ample opportunity to make an impression but didn't take it.
We looked like a popgun attack when he was deep forward. Just didn't get to anywhere near enough contests. his workrate simply isn't there & i think they'll start to look past him now.
Expecting CJ to get those opportunities from here in.

Dunno how much to put on Marbs alone - but Lever was allowed to take mark after mark today to cut off our forward moves.
At the very least we needed someone to contest with Lever in those situations.

Same old Mabs, really. Ultra-smooth but could do with some edge. Has to want the ball like he wants air to breathe, and not only when he's got a clear run at it. What will be, will be.

Yep. Lever n May did as they pleased all game, Cholly n the Lynchman were bloody ordinary n mediocre at best.
Obviously we're behind the pace on getting our pre season running n our A graders will be still building towards the season with a view to thundering through the second half of the year. But fringies like Cholly or Aarts etc who've been around the traps for a few years need to stand up n make a claim. Aartsy claimed it all game, Cholly fringed it all game.

Like him as a second ruck but gives little as a key forward. Was a Liability at times today as his oppenents did as they like and whenever (apart from his free kick) the ball went near him it came straight back out. Wasn't all his fault though as they often had a player drop back for the contest. Needed to make a better contest of it.

Critical decision we made last year was dumping Chol after the QUAL and doing what we should have done all along - and played Broadie and pinch hit with Dave in the ruck. Think Dimma acknowledged that was a big mistake after the Qual.

He just doesn’t compete anywhere near hard enough for mine. If the ball’s dropped on his head he doesn’t want to know about it. Timid at times.

Reckon this is a career defining year for him. I’d have been happy to have offloaded him during the off season. Anyway hope he finds a gear or two this year. Think he may need to...

We have to wait for round 6 before we can possibly see CCJ in the big league. Certainly on todays showing an upgrade on Chol

I thought early on Chol moved well and presented pretty decently but wasn't helped by a bit of first game delivery. I'm still a buyer on him for this season, I think he might be a surprise packet.
Cholly just looks like he needs space to roam around in.
Seems to get easily buried in the restriction of deep forward, not sure when to lead on the burst n sort of hovers in place. Then when the ball gets dumped on top of him, it's too many bodies n players coming over the top of packs.
Not sure if he's got enough motor but I'd like to see him play a couple of magoos games either on wing or half forward flank. Let him roam up n down n linking up. Big arse, tall, mobile n cat like with a sweet left shank. There's plenty of very tempting little toys to like about about Cholly but the problem is trying to find a way for him to put them all together for a whole game instead of one or two glimpses n cameos.

Mabs is ok running onto the ball, but is hopeless standing under a highball, doesn't even make a contest of it sometimes. I thought he was ok when he was in the ruck yesterday, he contested a lot better than he did last year.

Maybe that’s his role now i.e. he’s there as ruck cover for a Nank injury during the forced absences of CCJ and Soldo

They won't be calling him 2 phones come October more like 'job keeper' cholly.
He needs to grow some balls and start hitting packs.
Not only did he drop simple marks but his 2nd efforts were Shithouse

If he had Alirs physicality and intensity Mabs could be a dead set star.

I would like Cholly however, to take Castagna aside and teach him how to kick.

Could you imagine the scoreboard damage if George could kick anywhere near as accurately as 2 phones.

George can then show Cholly how to put the speed on and make some presence around the ground.

At some stage, he has to get more competitive, I've cut him more slack than most but you just can't continue to be a big who is timid in the air. Lacks presence.

Otherwise your a big small. Handy for depth only. Still.
