I saw sheds blind handpass to an opposition player once so anything is possible
I still prefer Bolton as a forward.
I have a theory that we should be running a blue collar midfield, and an all skillz forward line.
Inside Mids: Graham, Lambert, Ross, Pickett, Cotchy, Prestia. (rotating)
Forwards: Jack, Tom, Dusty, Bolton, Edwards, Rioli. (rotating in CCJ, Rioli, Stack) when ready.
Instructions to mids: Get it in there.
Instructions to Forwards: Win.
Disagree entirely regarding Bolton. He’s an elite clearance player. You don’t waste that at half forward or the forward pocket.
Solely blue collar doesn’t cut it.
Our midfield is at its best when Edwards, Martin and Bolton are providing the class to compliment the others.
You need blokes who can carry the piano and blokes who can play it, not just one or the other.
I agree and we need our best kicks moving the ball inside 50, Edwards, Martin, Bolton etc. Last week we didn't even have 1 mark on the lead. Thats awful.
We do need a bit of a freshen up in our forward line, I think the Swans showed us a few weeks ago how a forward line can change very quickly, we need to give some separation to Lynch in particular. There aren't many defenders that can go with him on the lead and thats where he does his best work so we need to clear out for him. Thats when he's a 60+ goal / year forward. Sitting it on his head, thats when he's a 30+ goal / year forward.
The most important stat in the game is still goals scored.
If any of those blokes get half a metre of space inside fifty, they score.

Since 2017 and the foot issues, he just hasn’t had that freak athleticism.
No power sprint, no monster chase downs, no cutting hard at pace in traffic and no quick leaps off a step putting him on packs. Looks more workhorse then Cox Plate now.

don't think it's physical.
remember his first 2 years - 2016 and 2017 - he was just manic with everything he did. not just chasing and tackling but also with the ball.
not sure who it was - maybe lambert - said that rioli changed the way we played.
He was unbelievably good in 2017.
Bulter and castagna and him transform us as a club.
The foot injury he got in the GF, has effected the way he plays.
I reckon he can find form and be as good and maybe even better then 2017.
You don’t get Beethoven to play the xylophone when he can play the piano. That’s what you’re doing by parking Bolton up forward. He was the main reason we got back into the game against Port, when shifted to the midfield.
We have more than enough players capable of finishing off the midfield’s work. Without Prestia, I’m not sure we have enough guys in the middle who can break a game open.
He did chase down brilliantly and was rewarded holding the ball against Adam Saad in late 2018
2017 PF remains his best game. The next week he broke his foot.
I agree until that point he moved more like Shai. Was cat-like & often had 4-5 repeat efforts.
That said he still has a monster work rate but it would take its toll.

Rioli is a threat to the opposition even if not in form, he has form and history and the Rioli name.
Out of form he worries the opposition more than and in form Aarts does.
At the moment Aarts aint even really inpacting or showing any major form.

How many people actually play and carry pianos?
I've not seen many pianists with the build required to shift one.
Not sure how many removalists actually tickle the ivory.
It's actually a great analogy for the point I was making.
The blue collar folk carry pianos. The artists play them.
But you don't have them on stage at the same time.
I'd love a forward line full of artists.
When Bolton went forward in the finals last year, he turned the game for us. I'm not saying he's not a valuable mid too. But lethality in the midfield ends in goal scoring opportunities. Lethality forward ends in goals.
Agree with this. I would also encourage him to play with more flair and go for his goals. The way he lets the whole crowd let alone the opposition know he is going to handball it really annoys me. Be more dangerous. A small defender would not have sleepless nights before they play on him.
