Matthew Parker

Bombers took our VFL listed player Sam Durham. Maybe we actually wanted him?
Maybe we did however I doubt we would have then taken Parker out of spite. Think we would be a bit above that. If there was someone we rated higher I'm sure we would have taken them.

This is what Dermie said back then:

Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton believes mature-age St Kilda recruit Matthew Parker has an abundance of untapped potential.

Parker, 23, has been an exciting addition for the Saints with his speed, dynamism and enthusiasm earning him cult-hero status at Moorabbin.

Taken at pick No.47 in last year’s draft, the Western Australian has impressed Brereton since taking up a part-time role mentoring the club’s forwards.

“(Matthew) Parker has so much upside it’s not funny - he’s got extraordinary talent,” the five-time premiership Hawk told SEN’s KB and The Doc.
Thanks @caesar.... had me first jab today so at least I know it's left me with a little bit of memory :)

I'm surprised by this pick for a number of reasons.

Guess we will see how it pans out from here.

Like that we've taken a mature player who's ready to go. He's the oldest of the 22 taken at 25yo.

Certainly doesn't play small as mooted on the first page. Doesn't lack confidence; struck me as (for want of a better term) a bit of a "bighead" at St.Kilda. It was a hard decision for them to delist him and it was touch and go. They look to have made a mistake with Nick Hind which was also a 50/50 delist decision.

Played mostly as a forward and as someone said, was a "burst", "highlight reel" player in a similar way to early Shai Bolton. Whether he was good or bad, he was noticeable. Prone to trying low-percentage things that didn't come off.

Seems to have developed his stamina since last time and if he can take a turn in the midfield, we can use him this year.

Being indigenous, I wonder whether they'll rush him in this week?
