Great news about the knee! It’s rare to hear a suspected ACL isn’t an ACL.

You can’t get LASIK till mid to late twenties, when the myopia settles down, otherwise the effects won’t last.

Yeah, it keeps getting worse until you’re about 30. He could get it done now, but it’s not recommended because it thins the cornea each time, so I think usually you can only do it twice. That would mean he’d need it done a second time before it’s finished settling down, so he wouldn’t be able to fix it later.

Balta has a long, 10+ year career ahead of him, so best to wait it out as long as he can.

Great Great News !!

So glad to hear it is not a ACL, Ive no doubt he could possibly have a medial or lateral injury of sorts due to that sheering twisting mechanism on the knee which is also the very mechanism that tears the syndesmosis ligaments supporting the joint of the Tibia and Fibula at the ankle.

Sounds like a rupture of the syndesmosis ligaments and associated separation of the Tib Fib for Noah.

Serious syndesmosis injuries resulting under heavy force / mechanism can lead to fracture and even compound fracture often seen in road trauma or falls from heights.

A nasty injury but a better result for him long term than an ACL.

If it means we get Noah back for Pre Season 2022 that in itself is great news.

Nathan might yet still return if his is not as bad , but we will find out.

If the season is going down the toilet and they are up against it probably better to let them both rehab fully and have them both fit and focussed for 2022.
Thanks Craig.
After repeated speculation that Rioli may not have fully recovered full function in this ankle/foot function since his 2017 injury, is a bad Syndesmosis injury capable of full recovery?

The best impending ankle surgery news to a richmond player in my lifetime I reckon.

a bit of a list prune, lay down our draft hand, train Shockings rules over summer,

and win the 2022 flag,

at decent odds.

my coping mechanisms are kicking in .....

DA no worries mate.

I'm pretty sure Daniel had a fracture to his foot in a metatarsal which whilst not ideal, its not an ankle syndesmosis injury.

Agree, but also makes me think they put Soldo away for the season because they didn't think we were going to contend this year. Maybe there are things happening we don't know about which make the match committee, coaches etc unconfident about our chances this year.

With effective surgery and rehab I cant see too many issues Kane Lambert is a good example.

Often the Tib Fib are screwed together to stabilise them whist the ruptured ligaments are sutured repaired and re attached.

The issue with all Tendon/ Ligamentus Injuries is lack of blood supply hence slow recovery as opposed to muscle fibers.

In regard to the rehabbing, prognosis treatment modalities and recovery from such injuries mate I'm not the guy to ask.

I'm more on the primary emergency side of things, cheers but thanks for the hit up.

Big Richo is ya man here.

He's on that side of the medical fence and can give a much much greater insight than myself in regard to all these areas.

Large Son Of Bull any tips for DA on the long term??

It is still alive, we have a soft run home and we'll still get good players back. After that, who knows.

I'm pretty relaxed about syndesmosis generally. It's not a joint that has to do much other than be stable so it's a pretty straightforward surgery and you can actually do a stress x-ray during the procedure to check it is stable before you close up, so there is not much chance of error.

If you've had a really traumatic disruption it may need to be screwed and the screws removed later on but that won't be the case with Balta so he will be immobile for a couple of weeks, not weight bearing for a couple of months and 12-16 from playing footy again on an average time frame.

Assuming you rehab well, long term it's as good as new from a football playing perspective, it might give him a few grumbles when he is 50 though.

As Craig said, Rioli broke a bone in the middle of his foot which is very different. Lambert, Nankervis and Prestia have all had syndesmosis injuries of varying degress in recent times. Nankervis missed about 10 weeks, Prestia about 15 so Balta will be somewhere in there.
Awesome work boys.
Very informative and, most importantly, free medical advice!!!

Can't recall a player really that was ever diagnosed initially with an ACL and it ends up not being the case

Yep.

Its a very simple structural stability test and usually very conclusive.

Bleeding from a ruptured ACL can be another giveaway as they can bleed.
