Last chance for Ross and Naish?
seriously ,does anybody think that 10-20 gamers should be turning games at afl level yet, these guys have almost no expierience at any form of senior level,2020 no footy, 2021 6 odd vfl games.

Unless Ross has been selected to play as an inside mid then this is a puzzling one. You have a young KPD with speed and size who seems ready to have a crack, yet you are picking a midfield plodder to play out of the backline. WTF is going on.
I swear its like they have forgotten what they have been doing for the last 4 years and have returned to some really bad form. Still think this has a lot to do with Dimma being spooked after the Melbourne and Geelong losses and is now trying to reinvent the wheel. Not going to end well. Last time Dimma was spooked was after we started showing some promise early days and i think it was a Carlton loss. He was hellbent on reinventing the team and players and we all know how that worked out. Once he realised we needed to go back to basics and play a simple game it all came together. Our gameplan of pressure was fine. It just needed some fresh enthusiasm. Some hungry faces. Hope Dimma wakes up before its too late

That appeared to be one of our main problems last week and last few weeks, dropping crucial marks; yet last week Broad 9 marks, Grimes 8, Flossy 7 which weren't too bad I guess but Balta dropped a few, got 5. In past years our intercept marking in back half was a feature of our re-bound turnovers leading to goals.
Most of those marks would have been from slow switching across the backline.

Can't recall being less interested in a H&A game. Naish and Ross in give me no enthusiasm. the only good thing is we are essentially playing a VFL standard size so they should level up. Would rather have seen 65 minutes of Stack.

The slow COVID grind might be wearing dimma down. We are really working against ourselves with the ‘too clever by half’ selections and stubborn statements about players learning new roles. It’s hard enough to enjoy the footy atm with putrid rule changes without a return to chip and catch crap. I hope he wakes up soon.

Ross is a proven failure as a midfileder

His career as a midfielder matches that of Flossy, so the hope is he goes back and becomes a hybrid defender.

This is his only opportunity of having an AFL career.

Hears hoping because he has a huge opportunity with Broad out

Funny thing is he tested so well for pace, but I have never seen it in a game.

I actually don't mind RCD, Naish and Ross getting a gig. At least they went back to the VFL and produced. I'm more disillusioned about the continuing selection of Castagna and blind Faith in a cooked Houli. Also I would have selected Miller last week and played Balta as a roaming swingman. DTLD is just about cooked also and Miller should have been selected instead!

While I agree that Ross has been substandard last couple of years, I can’t shake the image of the confident, strong midfielder he was in his debut year and wonder wtf has happened. He has genuine ability and I think should be playing midfield.

Miller's only just starting to get going at VFL yet consistency is still to come. If you'd seen the Willy match you would have wondered why their forwards were able to mark everything without any impact by Miller in the air. Promoting him now would be only if Astbury wasn't available. It could have been another Samson Ryanesque debut. Let Miller continue to develop.

As for Ross, he looked much better at HB last week. @nikolasmia's comparison to Vlastuin as a midfielder is interesting. We'll see how it plays out, but a change of role could be the making of him.

Looks like KMac to fill Broads role and Naish on the wing.
Nah, we still have Astbury, Grimes, Houli, Vlastuin, Baker and Short down back, and Ross surely to play there.
Naish, KMac and Pickett to split time on the wing, with Pickett playing elsewhere as needed.
If things go wrong then maybe KMac back.

It's like what the bummers did to Parish .... drafted him as an inside mid, then tried to play him everywhere but .... now they've made him a midfield mid and guess what ....

I’ve really only seen Miller play in the game against Williamstown, and he was pretty average in that. I think we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment by pinning hopes on him. Sounding a lot like another Todd Elton.

I'm worried GC Suns will beat us on the outside with their speed especially on the fast track of Marvel Stadium. Plus once we lose the contested ball a number of our stars can't or won't chase - this alone puts greater pressure on our backline.

Not confident at all!

You have to remember that Miller is surrounded by some pretty average players in the VFL and against Williiamstown the ball in the 2nd half was pretty much coming in at will and he was contending with more than one opponent.
As for Ross comparison to Vloss i just dont see it. Ross' only position he has any chance of making it is as a midfield bull. Had the absolute makings of a midfield beast to get in and under but for some absolutely uknown and terrible reason he or the club decided to trim him down and turn him into a winger. His physical traits will only allow him to play the role he was drafted for so id wish the club would stop *smile* farting around by wasting years and development to be something he cannot.

Not confident at all!

We generally haven't been beaten by speed, we've been beaten far more with the larger size ground pulling our defence around.

Our record this year is 2 games at Marvel for 2 wins.
7 games at the G for 3 wins.

More confident at Marvel than the G this year.

Yep agreed Kiwi Bro. Tonight is the first time in ages I havent really given a stuff about our game.

Just feel somewhat ambivalent about tonight.

I do hope to see some more bright sparks from RCD and Shai.

Having a Miller or Stack in would've increased my interest a little more.

Most of those marks would have been from slow switching across the backline.

The key word there you mention Spooker is SLOW.

Switching is fine and all good and important to get the ball moving forward but it needs to be moved quickly.

If not it just leaves it easier for opposition to shut off the lanes, which is exactlty what we used to do, force em down the line or catch em out on a switch, then flood forward.

Chip and catch crap. The CCC gameplan.

If he’s not building around the player’s strengths and weaknesses, and trying to plug them into boxes that were pre-planned instead, then no matter how good his idea might be in theory, it won’t work.

We have a talented list, but they’re not #1 for pure elite foot skills or marking ability and we never will be because those traits are the most valued in the draft, so you’ll always be battling equalisation’s effects.
