Paddy Naish - where is he at?

This. Anyone expect a kid taken in the 30's to just step up to AFL level in his first dozen games? Most first round picks don't do it.
I remember people saying ditch Rance after his chaotic beginning. People need to take some emotion out of this. He was one of only a few to hit the scoreboard in the first half.
I'm not emotional - he is a soft dud that *smile* himself. That's a fact.

There are non-negotiables at AFL level re physicality and Naish can’t/won’t do them. Rance never had that problem, you always knew he was trying his arse off.
My point is Rance had kinks, defects in his game that people declared were permanent and couldn't be rectified.
Naish is still too lean, but I think all our players seemed lean coming out of preseason.
I remarked that it looked a deliberate tactic because of the reduced rotations and the need to be able to run for longer. That may have backfired, because the teams who've been strong in the middle, have been winning the ball first and playing keeping off. I reckon it's hurt Paddy too, but he's not the only player on our list that can't stick a tackle.

Some emotional posting here. I get it.

But this bloke hasn't even played 10 games of footy.

Much bigger problems elsewhere.
Hopefully we don’t see any more.

That missed tackle was close to the weakest effort I have seen from a Richmond player. I used a much stronger word to Describe it at the game but it was a putrid effort. He has no business being in the AFL.

Sorry Scoop I know you’re a fan but Paddy is done. Clearly not up to it; has shown nothing every time he’s been given an opportunity. Too slight; not strong enough and not good enough to make up for those deficiencies.
Don’t disagree but he wasn’t the worst tonight. By a loooooooonnnngggg way.

I was warming to him till I saw that tackle non- effort. Maybe he was spent - he’s still very young...but that was about effort - and it wasn’t good enough.

That attempt at a tackle! It was telling.

Naish might have been an okay addition to our premiership teams of years gone by, but adding him to this team is destined for failure.

4 years in the system and still has the physique of a first year player. Can’t break a tackle or stick one. If he ain’t getting easy ball on the outside he is rendered useless.

The missed tackle was a crucial moment in the game. That said I didn't think he was too bad.
Does seem to have trouble winning much ball at AFL level though. I'd probably put a line through him if I'm honest.

For me, Naish had his best game,

Went in hard, kicked long and well, hope stays in, has some tools

Playing less than 10 games is a huge percentage of blokes who get to the top level. Suggests clubs can and do make early calls.

Name names instead of saying bigger problems elsewhere - you could well be right but don't leave is wondering.

But what does he bring? And what can he bring? What is his best position?

IMO he is too slow and lacks the running ability to be a wing.

He is not physical enough to play mid.

He is not physical enough to play HBF. Nor quick enough. Nor does he have the smarts. He hasn't kicked the ball enough to get a handle on how good his disposal is.

He hasn't shown he could be a small forward. He doesn't have the pace nor the tackling mindset required.

He's a good VFL player that doesn't level up. Like Corey Ellis. Like Ben Lennon. Their lack of physical gifts at AFL level are exposed.
