As a nation we are obviously happy to say that to Indonesia and other struggling nations who cannot get access to vaccines. Most decry our government for not having more vaccines. Given the relative small risk from covid we have here in Australia shouldn't we be a long last on the world vaccination program list?

Indonesian lives < Australian lives

Should be an ethical dilemma and it should have been debated and discussed but clearly not an issue. #whereareallthesocialists?

MD I appreciate your posts in this thread which are usually pretty measured, but the argument that Australia should not vaccinate because developing countries are in dire straits because of the disease is stunningly bad, especially given Delta is perilously close to taking off in Australia.

Australia will reroute AZ to developing countries and the US under Biden is already mass manufacturing and shipping to developing countries also. The West should absolutely ramp up production and send mass vaccines to the third world, and that is happening.

That's socialist right? Looking forward to seeing you extend that argument to poverty, climate change refugees, refugees of war, inequalities of education, other forms of disease and foreign aid.

Or do we just turn the tap off again once the pandemic is under control?

Got my second AZ today at the Shed, no wait time. Was flattered as the attendants thought I was so young and good looking I was there for Pfizer so they must have put me at 49 years old

I got the second at 6 weeks after the first after hearing Dr Norman Swan saying that most recent evidence shows the second vaccine is nearly as effective after 4 weeks as it is at 12, and he'd got his second early to better protect himself and the community (he's in Sydney).

MD is just trolling and not worthy of a response with that post, which is a pity, cos as you say most of their other posts are well considered, especially the ones bagging Morrison and the NSW Libs.

Must have struck a nerve. Thought you were the caring type.

We are a global society until we aren't. Love to be on a sinking ship with some of you guys. Probably start dressing up as women to get off first.

Yeh that's what I said. Don't vaccinate. FWIW I was vaccinated as soon as eligible so my actions don't support what you've said. If they offered me a choice to wait and allow more needy countries first I would have said yes.

Do you think Aust should be fully vaccinated before Indonesia? Given a limited supply of vaccines should they have been more directed to countries most at need? Or should those that can pay get them first? Do you think we had any influence over that?

As far as the rest go we should be doing way more as a nation as far as poverty/inequality education/health etc. Its why I donate money towards some of these causes.

John Barilaro's own daughter has been fined for breaching covid rules. No wonder people aren't taking it seriously in NSW, even the deputy leaders children don't know (or don't care).

My bet is NSW will announce a full scale lockdown this weekend.

Like Father , like Daughter going by that article

My concern in Victoria is we got on top of Delta last time but there are no guarantees we can do it again this lockdown.
Even if we do it's only a matter of time before it spills over from NSW again with Glady's attitude.
Then what?
I think we might be in a bit of trouble this time. I won't be surprised if we have restrictions for months.

I don't really understand your first three sentences there.

If we don't vaccinate, we stay locked down, more businesses go broke, more people lose jobs and if Delta breaks out we are in the pooh too, along with our health system. Clearly we must vaccinate our population as fast as possible, just like every other country in the world is doing. At the same time we should also assist our neighbours - and we are - although we could and should do more. We are helping the south pacific nations and Indonesia with vaccines, and we should continue making Astra Zeneca for them, as we are doing. They'll take it. They aren't worried about 3 deaths per 100K from clotting, people there are dying every day from Covid.

Do you think Aust should be fully vaccinated before Indonesia? Given a limited supply of vaccines should they have been more directed to countries most at need? Or should those that can pay get them first? Do you think we had any influence over that?

I don't think any nation should necessarily be fully vaccinated before another, but clearly with a population of 30 million on one island (mostly) vs 300 million spread over thousands of islands I'd be surprised if we didn't get it done first, because of our relative wealth per capita, better health systems, easier logistics. and so on.

We are able to manufacture and we should keep doing that - we should scale that up both for ourselves and others, and but for the bungling of messaging we'd all be happily taking AZ and shipping it to other countries.

I'm still working with a number of teams in Indo - many extended families of those team members have experienced deaths already. I'm talking to them every day - these are people with good jobs and money, but they have relatives and friends in tougher circumstances of course. One of my close colleagues just took 3 days off to care for a disabled aunt in Java who has covid now. My colleague now has symptoms - she's been vaccinated through her company but still, worrying times.

On your last point, glad to hear it.

The most astounding statement I heard from one of the NSW pollies was "we didn't know fast the Delta strain would travel or what we were dealing with" or something very close to that.

Really!!!!! you bunch of pillocks, you just had to look at what we in Victoria went through a few months ago. It would have been pretty obvious if you weren't so bloody stupid.

Gladys has kind of said similar things. This is Delta, haven't seen anything like it before (so NSW are special) ............................................. apart from when we saw it in VIC a month ago.

Tend to agree we are already up to now 150, (and growing), exposure sites, more than 3000 primary close contacts and 3500 secondary close contacts in a short amount of time despite quick lockdown.

Does anyone have the current NSW comparison?

Apparently there are 12,000 VIC doses of Pfizer available for those eligible and wanting their first dose of Pfizer in the next 10 days.. Need to book though.

I suppose in a genderless society no one would be prioritised we’d all just do rocks paper scissors for first spot.

I remain optimistic, we are locking down early so hopefully . . .

Trip to Perth is off for me now though, so much for going to my father's 90th.

As for the vaccine, I am sticking with the 12 weeks for the second shot, figure it should be ok. Mind you, I've been sick with a couple of things for about 4 weeks now which is a right pain as I don't often get sick. Should be well again to get the second jab.

The 12,000 was 1st VIC doses available and didn't take into account second doses.
