Yes, and otherwise intelligent people buy into it even though the motivations of the people pushing these types of theories is patently obvious. If you start putting your faith in people like Tucker Carlson and Rand Paul, you are on a road to nowhere.

An education academic called Gardner wrote a seminal theory of multiple intelligences circa 1980.

he detailed 9 different kinds of smart and it should have changed education, and no matter how many essays you write on the theory in teacher training, it didnt.

Its a great theory.

But I think it needs revisiting and reworking.

Either theres different modes of stupidity, whereby seemingly intelligent people swallow a heap of hateful horseshit on the internet,

or theres a type of intelligence that Gardiner missed, that has a real lack of discernment?

* on reflection on the modes, I hypothesis that online conspiracy nut jobs have a severe deficiency in Gardners Inter- and Intra-personal intelligences.

Super weird morning for me. I went to see the GC Suns V Southport in the VFL. The siren sounded at the 10 minute mark of the first quarter.

crowd wondering what's going on, players looking baffled. No-one seemed to have an indication of the unfolding Covid drama in SE Qld.

players disappear, some in the crowd hit social media and the word spreads.

crowd leave stunned, shaking their heads. Some laughing and shrugging shoulders, a couple whingeing.

pretty surreal game of footy.

strange days indeed.

For the record I put more weight in the MIT Technology Review article on what constitutes gain of function than an English major journalist (who had to correct his February 2021 article because the scientific consensus changed in May). For one they actually discuss the pertinent issues from a technical perspective. Using right wing straw men who make exaggerated claims does not change the fact that the NIH funded research at the WIV into modifying bat corona virus so that they are more transmissable to humans FACT. Also a fact is that work was undertaken at Bio security level 2 which according to many experts was manifestly insufficient to the potential risk. You are a prime example of this binary thinking that is a contagion on this debate.

Went to my kids sport this morning on the Mornington Peninsula.

When I got out of the car, I actually got out my phone and rechecked the restrictions because I thought I may have missed something, such was the tiny amount of people wearing masks.

If there was 100 people there, 5 would have had masks on. Despite the instructions we were given to minimise spectators, most people had all parents and siblings present.

Unquestionably the most flagrant ignoring of the rules I've seen since Covid began. They better get the vaccine out fast because the will of the people may be past the point of no return.

I went to community sport. Saw the same thing. But most stayed in their car. The club volunteers were all doing the right things with masks and measures in place. Would be better off letting 1,000 people in and watch the game.

I was talked into shopping to get something for my son. The amount of people at Kmart it was like the last Saturday before Christmas. And I drove past Bunnings and the carpark was full.

Whats the higher risk?

fauci can be a great guy and be going for a greater good he doesn’t communicate in a Machiavellian way. The fact trump Completely undermined him was a disaster.

Irrelevant to the discussion of whether Fauci regularly lies to the American public on public health issues which he has on the question of masks, herd immunity and whether the organisation he leads funded gain of function research on corona viruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology .

the dangerous situation, aside from the virus and its variants, is community division.
anti-vaxxers and anti-lockdowners are the obvious picks..

but here's one - somebody went into a store recently and was told to leave because they were WEARING a mask !
another was asked to leave an exercise class and not come back because they'd had the vaccine ...

these little incidents are becoming more frequent and it's a worry i reckon ..

I see this as the next great challenge. Been predicting this fallout.

It’s been that way all the time. It wasn’t Emil madsen you were at by any chance?
My kids play sport there and no mask wearing and too many spectators is the norm despite restrictions. It’s not only Syd people that flout the rules. Personally as long as people are outdoors and practicing social distancing the risks are low.

My son played basketball yesterday afternoon. Compliance to the regulations was outstanding. Everyone was wearing masks, mostly properly, and it all went smoothly. But that is an indoor sport and I think people are more likely to not wear masks outside.
