Olympics Tokyo 2021 - sport

Bloke just made himself equal favourite in the 400m wearing a baggy training t-shirt, like he was going out for a training jog (and looked like he’d just run a training jog around the block when he finished).

Sam Kerr robbed, Aussies robbed. The Matildas had the Swedes on the ropes, a good 3 chances for goal and one disallowed.

Must continue this into the 2nd half.

Playing out of their skins, Sweden looked very average in the last 20 mins Aussies on fire. Definitely robbed.

Matildas stitched up by a putrid call by the ref to disallow a Sam Kerr goal.

Now Sweden go ahead with a lucky goal.

Unfortunately refs/umpires have massive influence on sporting results. Refs cost is a shot at gold at the last Basketball World Cup. They crucified bogut. And now a ref ruins a spectacular goal by Kerr. No wonder it’s hard to respect them.

Opals have to win by 25 to get into last 8. Are struggling to even take lead against Puerto Rico who lost their 2 games by 35 and 42.

How come there was torrential rain at track and soccer is dry?
Not sure what the venue for the women’s game was tonight. But I know the football tournament isn’t confined to just Tokyo. Spread around a few cities. That is one sport in the Olympics that tends to be shared around the host country. Partly through necessity finding enough stadia to do it. But also as a nice touch, sharing an element of the games more widely.

Opals have played terribly this tournament. Don’t really deserve to progress.

Matildas totally stitched up by the ref. That was a goal except the ref made the attention seeking call when there was nothing in it. Then Sweden get a very lucky goal and that’s the game.

After the first 25 minutes the Aussies were clearly the better team. But in the tradition of Australian soccer teams over the years they couldn’t finish to capitalise on their dominance. Still, they were unlucky tonight. Don’t think the better team on the night won.

Very brave effort by the Matildas. Best they have played in a while. Swedes struggled stop the waves of attacks. Just couldn't get one in the back of the net in the 2nd half

As a casual watcher of our teams we rarely have enough talented forwards to finish off the work upfield?

I’m far from an expert but that’s how I’ve always seen it. Going back to the 80s and 90s when we were trying to qualify for World Cups but kept failing; couldn’t score. We’re better now and mostly good enough to get through the weakest major conference in Asia but when we get to the big league it gets shown up.

Funny in basketball that you are forced to shoot when fouled at the end when just keeping possession is preferable.
