Coronavirus

So much for the Covid nay sayers early in the piece who were saying schools are of minimal risk and should remain open. They’re vector points.

A footballer in the seniors team at a club in Melbourne’s south-west has tested positive for coronavirus a few days after playing a match on Saturday, according to his league.

Yep, one of the three unlinked cases announced today I think.

20 new exposure sites in Melbourne including 11 Tier 1. All in the western suburbs. We're *smile*.

Lockdown 6.0 here we come.

there is already talk of a 3 day lockdown. presser is at 11:45, but there will be no announcment until at least tonight.

the positive is that masks are still compulsory and home visits banned. so whatever happens in the coming days, it should be under control quickly.

It's only positive if people are following the regulations. We are seeing in NSW that the outbreak remains out of control and one of the reasons is that too many people are refusing to comply to the home visit ban. We also know that was a key reason for the explosion of the virus in the second wave in Melbourne last year.

I hope you are right but what's to say it's not happening here again now.

We’re not following the regulations. Out and about this morning and yesterday, the amount of non mask wearing aholes was infuriating. Main offenders, combination of tradie blue collar guys everywhere and 50 plus year olds.

………. If people were following the restriction requirements.

I work near the Metro Rail Tunnel at North Melbourne... We all grab coffee's from the local cafe. mask compliance is shocking with those workers.

They’re a disgrace Ian. In my local area there’s a 1klm stretch of road where there’s all this road works, drainage work going on, plus a number of building sites eg new apartment blocks and such. Out of the dozens and dozens that I see standing around with each other, sitting in vehicles together, going in and out of sites etc maybe 10% at best have a mask on.

Not great numbers today, we'll see how it goes in Vic, NSW clearly having trouble controlling this. Once the numbers get higher it gets so hard to control.

One of the things which gets me with the vaccines is that I understand that there is concern about the long term effects of getting vaccinated, and we won't know for sure what the long term effects are for a while. But, we also don't know the long term effects of contracting COVID. You might get it now, not get sick at all, but will there be a recurrence, will there be long term impacts? Who knows? The long term impact of catching COVID, even if you don't get sick now, is just as unknown as any long term impacts of the vaccines. There are 2 sides to this but we seem to overly concentrate on the possible long term impact of vaccines.

The non compliance to mask wearing is a problem but the visiting of family and friends against regulations is even worse. That's where the majority of spread occurs. How *smile* hard is it to stay home???? We don't have any parents to visit but the last time either of us saw any of our siblings was the long weekend in June. It's not great but it's what you have to do.

I’ve got an old woman next door to me who goes and visits her family each and every day - including during the peak, hard core lockdown periods.

They’re everywhere.

That's shithouse. That is a major tax payer funded government project. Where are the Worksafe inspectors and other authorities enforcing the regulations?? If you can't get compliance on a government project what hope have you got?

What about the unions are their constant demands around workplace safety ? Where are they now ?? I know they’re looking to promote vaccination amongst their members, but that’s not good enough.

We’re stuffed. The school and footy club will run rampant. Lockdown 6 certainty. My poor kids losing their childhood

Yep similar story here - apartment block being built nearby so heaps of tradies in the area, all hang out in groups on their breaks with not a mask in sight. I almost feel like I am being judged when I am out wearing a mask at the gym or shopping centres.

Does my head in.

Anyway, until our failed PM delivers on a vaccine rollout, this is the crushing existence that he’s got all of Australia subscribed to.
