Retire / Trade / Delist

Our problem is we have nothing to fill the gorilla position as yet. In the club we have Garth who has been found wanting, Miller still untried as he can't get a game if his life depended on it and Biggie nowhere ready so maybe Dave will have to be persuaded go round one more time. Been an incredible servant to out club
Has Garth been found wanting ? or he just cops it from our fans .He played on Hogan and Himmerberg on Friday and did his job went on Taranto and he kicked one goal on him.Not sure he deserves all the bashing his no star , but alot played worse then him.

Probably a bit harsh by me but whilst he tries so hard he has not got the attributes to be a regular in AFL. His positioning, his speed and awareness etc gets shown up against a good player

His depth only for me the problem is we delist him can Biggie or Miller step up that's the unknown ? .Dave's body cannot handle 22 games if he doesn't retire.Add to that Balta injured and will need time.

With Dave gone it looks like a reprieve for either Miller or Garthwaite. Not both, just one as unless we can pick up a readymade replacement for Dave close season then we need a gorilla in defence. For me even though he has yet to play AFL, Miller has the size and athleticism to be that man

Yeah, Miller was unlucky to get injured at the wrong time. Heard he has shown some good signs but untried at AFL level so I guess a bit of a unknown. Gath does not look up to it ..

Miller has the genuine size required I'd give him an extra year at minimum coin if it came to one of them getting one more shot at it.

That said I'd still be looking at another junior and a more mature aged KPD to bring in as well.

We are bereft down back.

And If CCJ goes we've got zero key forward depth aside from Tom and Jack.

Won’t be surprised if through delisting or trade, Astbury, Castagna, Coleman-Jones, Garthwaite, Houli, Naish, Parker and Soldo are not with us in 22.

You might be a little behind the times on the Astbury call ;)

Seems a lot OOC for this late in the season.

Agree that this is the way it will go but it highlights some poor list management on our part.

At least one of Miller or Garthwaite should have been moved on last year and another young up and coming tall brought on in their place. We also had an opportunity to take a young tall in the mid-season draft but opted for Parker instead.

Not enough list turnover in recent time and it means we’ll have to persist with some players that are clearly not up to it.

Not enough list turnover?
To be fair to the club they have been systematic and clinical to prune the list since 2017.
Lloyd, Miles, Ellis, Markov, Butler Lennon.
We've rarely delisted young kids but have moved on the seasoned depth players.
Though we have tended to keep talls on longer - Chol Miller and Garthwaite in particular. Definitely we could've pushed one or 2 out last year but we needed them this year and maybe there wasn't the quality? Imagine with no Chol we wouldve played Samson for 10 games when he is not ready.

Overall the club has been ultra pro about list mgt.
Its why we have so many RCD Dow Ross etc

Soldo & Baker are NOT OOC this year, they both signed extensions for 2022 on 25th march 2021

Dave and Bachar retiring is going to give us significant more cap space, the next couple of months will be interesting.

TPP Management cannot be reactive, we would have factored in some retirements this year , at least a couple of years ago.

Forward estimates if you like

We would have but maybe just Bachar. From the 2 retirement videos it seemed clear that Bachar was tapped on the shoulder (so we were probably factoring that into future years TPP when discussing contracts), but Astbury seemed to take the club by surprise in that they wanted him to play on. That will free up some TPP we might not have been expecting.

Correct call on Dave and Bachar...no further retirements now. Think Blair may have his eye on the price.....
