I thought Pickett was good in the second half.

Libba and Hunter were ordinary. Probably on the nose beers all week.

Shache resumed his normal service. As did Martin. Hope they sign up both for a few years.

Stepping back you really see how much they have focused on us and how to replicate what we did.

The whole - Melbourne man thing
Woman president
Pressure ball - they were 17th for disposal efficiency this season
Rest of squad running on in their shirts
Even Petracca hiding the Norm Smith

Should I feel proud that they have copied us? Maybe
Do I feel proud, not really but I do want to smash the *smile* out of these dicks next year at the G
Goodwin needs to lift his game. I didn’t hear him mention Mrs Goodwin once

Let me list a few players

Petty
Bowey
Rivers
Spargo
Sparrow
McDonald
Brown
Hibberd
Harmes
Neil-Bullen

All played their role but they are not superstars. I’m not saying they aren’t decent players but they are also not massively better than the bottom 10 in a number of other teams. ( I am sure some will question my list)

Melbourne were great this season and awesome last night but they are far from unbeatable
They make the most of what they have, like all good teams.

Midfield rotations? What midfield rotations? They use one of the two ruckmen, Petracca, Oliver and Viney in the guts. Harmes occasionally tags someone, Neal-Bullen plays the Lambert role and allows Petracca to go forward and that is it. Brayshaw plays wing, Jones was dropped and left out, Jordan played early in the season as an inside mid but he is out of the team now.

They have a very rigid structure, within the constraints of the modern game which demands all players run up and down the ground all day. Their defenders always defend and stay behind the ball. Salem is always the running outlet from defence, the forwards are always forward and presenting as targets.

And all of the best players play “on the ball” all day. Just like in Under 12s.

Congratulations to them. They have turned Gawn, Petracca and Oliver into some of the fittest players in the competition. That is seriously smart work.

What stood out was speed. The Dees players and ball movement. Can’t think of too many slow players. May? And he still looked a bit propounded so likely carrying something. But they are slick.

Seriously though. Congratulations to Melbourne. Texted a Melbourne supporting mate last night, he didn’t reply, I guessed he was too pissed to respond. I was right, he rang me this morning :))
Talking to him earlier in the year he had just about given up seeing a flag. I told him I knew how he felt but keep supporting them because when it happens it’s one of the best feelings in the world.
Not going to begrudge them their moment of joy. I’m happy it wasn’t the pussies, port or bears

Nice obs. Definitely helps to have a good run with injury.
Gawn is a running beast isn’t he? Linking up, roving packs, bursting out of the middle FFS!
They are great to watch. Would be a powerhouse meeting if we could play them at full strength.

Perhaps wouldn’t begrudge the saints getting one but can’t see it happening anytime soon, otherwise happy for the numbers on that list to keep growing.

That is a good point tottie. Oliver and Petracca must have had high TOG. Almost a return to playing your best players in the most important positions for as long as possible.

Some crap in that top 10. Hope we don't blow it.
It increases with us because we have proven the draft is our Achilles heal.
Unless they're picks 1,2 or 3 we usually butcher them.
Im sacred with they will do in November.
5 picks they would have to hit at least one quality kid.

interesting - but this only works if you don’t get many injuries to your key players.

Also, if that’s the case they are well placed if or when the AFL further reduce interchange numbers.

Luke Jackson not getting the plaudits he deserves for one of the great ruckmens grand final games.

hes more Nank than Nank.

I'll have to check the replay, but I reckon he was in the ruck

for that 3 goal 30 seconds at the end of the 3rd q.

Bullied Footscray all night.

Hes my new favourite non-tiger.

good post Totty.

Dees deserved the flag. A great list, well coached, rode the wave of destiny.

really interesting story about May not wanting to know the hammy scan result after the prelim.

Ive always wondered if you could play a GF with a torn hammy. Asked the question on here several times.

Now I have the answer;

A: you can if you don't know about it.

a couple of side stories I noticed.

1. Lever *smile* himself in GF's. was only really good when the game was done. Panic hack kicked the entire first half.
2. Fritch is a great player, but kicked 6 on a bloke playing with a busted wrist.

3. Petracca deserved the NS hands down. The NS is about the only thing The AFL get right consistently. It was unanimous. However, it has also become a possession medal, would have given Luke Jackson 2nd. Petracca, Fritch, Oliver, Salem?, Daniel all played very well and deserved votes, but if you getting sophisticated about, and allocating votes based on the question

'who influenced the outcome of the game the most?'

well then, yes, you're still giving Petracca and Oliver votes.

however, Viney and Brayshaw held back the tide when it was overwhelming them early in the 3rd, then willed it their way with brute force late in the 3rd. Viney had the most clearances on the ground. If Jackson was Nankervis, Viney was Cotchin.

and Luke Jackson brutalised Footscray for 100 minutes, while Max Gawn, ah hum, let the smallest man on the ground push his face into the astroturf with impunity

EZT's Votes for Toby Nankervis Most Influential (The TN)

5 Christian Petracca
4 Clayton Oliver
3 Luke Jackson
2. Jack Viney
1. Andrew Brayshaw
