Coronavirus

Feel terrible for saying this. But it might not be a bad thing if Queensland gets a few more cases. States need to see that they have to open up.
I have always been surprised that Queensland has avoided a big outbreak considering the neighbour NSW. SA and WA I can understand but Queensland seems to have been very lucky. perhaps it will come.

That lack of a unified approach across all states has significantly contributed to the divisiveness amongst the people.

i agree. so why aren't NSW following the national plan?

that’s the narrative Morrison wants. Infect the COVID zero states. They go into lockdown, then he champions NSW as the state that lives with COVID.

Interpretation of the trend of the last column?
It’s probably what we are seeing in other countries like Israel. Hopefully the 5% who are in hospital don’t die of Covid otherwise it will add to the people sitting on the fence concerns.

I still think it clearly shows how well the vaccine works. The 5% who have been vaccinated you could easily argue would all die if they haven’t got it.

But based on that trend WA will never open up again.

Morrison wanting the country opened up how dare he. Yes he carries a lot of the blame with a slow roll out. But it’s time people put it on the states. From mid October there will be no supply issues again. 4 weeks between doses. Then 2 weeks to allow for maximum protection. So mid December at the latest the country should be fully open

NSW’s plans for opening up seem a lot better to me than ours. I hope it works incredibly well. It gives more freedoms than our road map. 80% was agreed upon by National Cabinet for the eligible population. Now 12 to 15 also getting vaccinated so if they are also included in the 80% fair enough as we are well into it. But States now saying it won’t be to 90% or 2022 is not the National plan.

Try and run a hospitality business with our rules or explain to people in the arts that haven’t worked that they still can’t. I know it’s very hard if you are a public servant to understand (those who are making these rules).

Yep, the more who are vaccinated, the more cases that you'll see in hospitals of partial/full vaccination, it's not hard to understand mathematically. And probably an order of magnitude lower than if none of us were vaccinated.

You can already see the vaccination effect kicking in in NSW.

The more we get vaccinated, the less chance of a "Biblical" outcome.

Just give it a rest please TM, seriously

He's like clockwork, every two days drops by to tell us he hates politicians and public servants, and mumbles nonsense about Coronacooties. Never ever a meaningful statement.

You can believe what you like but I can tell you as a fact the $1.3 billion was for far more than ICU beds and that there has never been a plan for 4000 ICU beds mainly because it is physically impossible and there is no modelling that says we require them
The $1.3 billion was the allocation made at the time for all COVID costs in public hospitals including ICU but for many other things as well.
Just to reiterate what fiction the 4000 beds always was

A couple of days ago Victoria had 75 COVID patients in ICU, probably a bit higher now. NSW had 214 and their highest has been about 240. The Burnett modelling for NSW estimated about 550 extra ICU beds in NSW and of course that was never reached. The main issue with the modelling was that it over estimated how sick people would be and how long they would stay in ICU and in hospital , probably because they underestimated the effects of the vaccinations.

To give a context the normal level of ICU beds in Victoria is about 450, some say higher because there is not always a clear definition of the difference between a high dependency bed and an intensive care bed but the highest number I have seen in just over 500.

And you could argue the lack of leadership by our dud PM was a big factor.

My simplest explanation is to take to an extreme. If 100% of the population has been vaccinated, then 100% of the people in hospital with COVID have been vaccinated and 0% will be unvaccinated.

Second expect to see anti vax groups run with this logic (illogic) line as this percentage continues to grow to be greater than the unvaccinated number.

In more bad news for anti-vaxxers, Israel has peaked and is on the down-slope of cases and deaths, at least for this current spike.

Yeh, reckon you would also need to look at it from a population viewpoint.

Did they re-instate some restrictions, is that partially a reason?

I'm looking at 157 hospitalised two weeks ago and 0% double-vaxxed.
Now 375 hospitalised and 5% double-vaxxed.

None of those hospitalised up to Sep 13 were double-vaxxed.
9% of those hospitalised in the last fortnight were double-vaxxed.

What it says to me is the newly double-vaxxed are thinking themselves immune and coming unstuck.

But of the original 157 I would assume some (most?) of them got out of hospital in the last 2 weeks? So it wouldn't necessarily be 9% of the extra 218 as that assumes the original 157 are still in hospital.

Certainly could be, although this article says that it's a high level of booster shots kicking in. Israeli's need a Green Pass (vax record) to access certain activities and locations.

Levels of serious cases/deaths of covid are down which they put down to high vax levels now.
