Coronavirus

Based on the focus of the thread lately the whole thing is over once we all wear a mask and get vaccinated. Can it be that simple? I'd like to think so .....

Thanks for clearing that up sin.
I did see on the news that there is possibly a gp in the west that is providing exemptions for those not wanting to be vaxxed. Queues were stretching out onto the road. I know at work that a few people got exemptions from their doctor from mask wearing just because they were sick of wearing one, no other reason. I’m not surprised that that would get extended to vaccinations as well
And Tiger Dr Joe was not happy about it.

You can upload your vaccine status on the Services Victoria app from today. its very easy to do. Ironically, they are yet to get this up and running in NSW.

This is clearly the ‘how do I get away with it’ culture that is rampant in Australia. Karmas a *smile* though and eventually this *smile* catches up with you one way or another.

exactly right. It’s the Australian way to find loopholes in everything and milk it as much as possible. But in this circumstance, people shouldn’t be looking for loopholes. Just follow the rules FFS.

This will be the next challenge. How is the certificate/passport going to be policed by businesses.

On the other side, there will also be vaccinated people who will not want to enter premises which have unvaccinated people present. This cuts both ways and the tiny minority of selfish needle-afraid anti-vaxxers should not be holding the rest of us to ransom. They can slink off into their own little universe, with their QAnon mates, and contemplate taking responsibility for their actions.

Said it 100 times. For most of them, ie retail operations, it won’t.

Yep, too much to ask. My kid works in retail and it's hard enough policing masks for them. Imagine having to ask someone for proof of vaccination on entry to buy clothes or whatever.

Yep can’t see any protesting anti vaxxer not being a complete selfish *smile* who won’t pick on 15 year olds.

This will only work where you have to pre register and prove your status to purchase. Or more like international travel and you have to show your passport and there is also security already present.

But even on pre registered purchases people will get others to buy stuff for them.

At the end of the day it will be natural selection only that does it’s work.

Not sure about anyone else but I think at some stage we all get Covid-19. It’s not going to get eradicated and will become endemic. Probably the sooner after your vaccine plus two weeks you get it the better (assuming medical system ok).

again, the media have got it the wrong way around. They keep talking about the reaction of anti-vaxxers if they are rejected from businesses.

But what about the reaction of pro-vaxxers like myself? I won’t be frequenting any businesses that turns a blind eye to checking the vaccine status of customers. Modelling is predicting multiple thousands of cases per day by Xmas. When we reach that point, many people will be questioning whether or not it is worthwhile going to the local for a pint. And they will wanna know if their local is a safe place to visit.

In addition, COVID is now a worksafe issue. So if businesses are breaking the rules, then they could be fined or shutdown. After 18 months being in and out of lockdown, do they really wanna risk this?

why are judges, lawyers, police, and security exempt from the vaccine mandate?

I've said it before but I'm not comfortable with the idea of having to scan in to every place you frequent forever.
I'd be surprised if anyone is given the Big Brother nature of it.
The sooner they ditch this digital system beyond the point it's required the better.

Agree, and I think thats the position we will be in. Those that don't want the vaccine will end up getting it and will have to beat it with no antibodies, the rest of us have antibodies and will beat it quicker with much less symptoms. Some of those without a vaccine will die, some will gain conditions they will need to deal with for the rest of their lives, and others will beat it and carry antibodies.

Once we get to 80% and we have provided those that want the vaccine enough time to have it before we declare it endemic, then we should open up and essentially you are at the point of "let it rip". As long as we have resourced up our hospital service (this is clearly the biggest risk) to cater for the surge of hospital admissions from those not vaccinated, then we need to get back to some level of reality.

I'm the same, once its declared endemic, we should not have to scan any longer IMO.

Walk up Moderna & Pfizer open to ALL at State run hubs removes any impediments as to supply or choice (y) :). At 84% 1st dose for 12+ we must be getting close to saturation, still an amazing effort and beyond where I thought we would get to.
Vaccine approval for under 12's can't come quick enough also as early learning centre outbreaks continue to be an issue.
