21 deaths in Victoria. 21 deaths in NSW. 42 lives lost across 2 states yesterday..42 groups of families & friends who've lost loved ones. Yesterday.
That's concerning. Very surprised we aren't seeing some tougher lockdowns with the case numbers and deaths we are seeing.

Current case numbers would suggest it's not doing a great job at reducing the spread.
How do you know that? You have no benchmark to work from. How do you know that if the population was far less vaccinated we wouldn't be having 100,000 cases a day. Of course the answer is you don't.

The experts ( remember them, the actual clinicians and scientists who really understand this stuff) are saying that with Omicron it is still spreading to the vaccinated but less so than if they were unvaccinated. They are also saying that the level of severity is much greater in the unvaccinated because vaccinated people have less antibody resistance to Omicron than other variants but have very strong T-Cell resistance which prevents severe disease .

At the very least vaccination is stopping a disaster in our hospitals. They are being overwhelmed now and it is horrible to consider what it would be like without vaccinations, thousands of people would die.

I have spoken with many clinical staff in hospitals as I work around the industry and they are very very angry at the unvaccinated. Not only are they a major cause of so many of them being worked to a standstill they are also a large part of the reason why so many Victorians can't get decent health support and can't get their elective surgery.

To be honest I am sick of this discussion and so many like them.

How does he know that? Who cares, he got to make a nice pithy one line statement on the basis of no evidence, no research and no thought. He also made a fair, but ultimately unconvincing, attempt to distance himself from the straw man about people claiming that vaccines prevent spread (reminder, no-one except anti-vaxxers and RWNJs, along with those sucked in by them, have promoted this claim, and they have only promoted the claim to create a straw man).

Bit like the climate debate really, lot's of morons nipping at the edges of the science, setting up straw men, all to distract from the actual facts. We just have to put up with the idiocy of some.

I actually believe in climate change and that much more needs to be done.

1k fines for people in NSW who don’t submit their RAT is comical policy from Domicron. ‘Personal responsibility’ will see many not bother to test at all. Absolute joke.

Pfizer CEO admitting current vaccine offers very little protection, if any, against Omicron. If true may explain the explosion in Omicron case numbers everywhere.

I think we need to wait to see what happens with ICU admissions and deaths over the next couple of weeks. Delta will still be a big part of those

What he actually said was 2 doses offered limited protection but with a booster it was reasonable protection and very good protection against serious illness. He also said that they will have a new vaccine targeted against Omicron by March

What's even more concerning from the article is -

"But some experts have questioned the justification for mandates of a vaccine that evidence shows is no longer stopping transmission".

"Writing in The Wall Street Journal on Sunday, Nobel prize-winning virologist Luc Montagnier and constitutional scholar Jed Rubenfeld argued the rise of Omicron had made the Biden administration’s vaccine mandates “obsolete”.

“It would be irrational, legally indefensible and contrary to the public interest for government to mandate vaccines absent any evidence that the vaccines are effective in stopping the spread of the pathogen they target,” they wrote."

"For Omicron, they noted, “there is as yet no such evidence” and moreover, “the little data we have suggests the opposite”.

One preprint study found that after 30 days the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines no longer had any statistically significant positive effect against Omicron infection, and after 90 days, their effect went negative – i.e. vaccinated people were more susceptible to Omicron infection,” they wrote.

“Confirming this negative efficacy finding, data from Denmark and the Canadian province of Ontario indicate that vaccinated people have higher rates of Omicron infection than unvaccinated people.”
