Ben seems to be the type of the unsung hero, just do his job. Hopefully he can establish a career being the dour, stopper backman. I think that’s the best we can hope for.

Yes, good point. He doesn’t need to be a superstar backman - that will be Gibcus.

Yeah think that's it. He's nout out of his depth but the unknow is how much better he can get. It doesn't appear that there is much left but does he need to improve THAT much? Kind of reminds me of Daniel Talia and he made a career of just stopping his opponent.

Another Atsbury?
Nothing like him. DTLD was an accomplished aerialist. Miller would leave him for dead in a foot race and can hit kicks Dave would pretend to consider before going long up the line.

Err, Spooker, don't you mean down the line?:mhihi

I wasn't as impressed as others on Ben.
Appeared to get lost many times, failing to get to contests and other times looked like a deer in the headlights.
I guess we will need to be patient.
A work in progress.
I wonder weather DTLD would consider being a top up?
No doubt he had his ops and is feeling good again.
Would love to see him again.

Dave was versatile, he could go up or down the line.

Has now played two very serviceable games, and hasn't done a lot wrong. He might be the back up tall defender, but will get plenty of opportunities this year as we can manage Tarrant, Grimes and Gibcus as need be. Rotating 4 key backmen between three posiitons is a good place to be, and so far, Miller has earned our trust. Also means Broad and Vlastuin can play their true roles rather than have to play tall.

With the added option of utilising Tarrant, Gibcus, & Miller down back, it frees up the likes of Grimes, Broad, & Vlastuin to play smaller and more released to zone off and intercept. It also adds pressure on spots for the small defender position vacated by Houli to the likes of Short, Rioli, Ralpsmith, Mansell, & I hope Stack albeit it appears unlikely he'll be played there

I thought he was pretty good. Made the right decisions on most occasions and did not look out of place.

We need to remember that it was his second AFL game. I think he is coming along nicely. Hopefully gets 8-10 games this year and gives us a real option for any injured players.

At a pinch has rucked and played forward in the VFL as well which gives the team added versatility

Agree on Miller.

He made a couple of good spoils, but as you say didn't get to a few contests.
I'd like to seem him back himself in and go for his marks.
He and Tarrant would be still feeling their way.
Grimes will great for him in regards to positioning and giving him self assurance.

Reckon a few here are being very generous to Miller. 5th year in the system and still hits contests like a tentative first year. Should be doing better.

Agree if we were talking top 20 pick. At pick 63 with his athletic attributes I think we give him a bit more time. I think his efforts and actions this year will determine if he stays on the list. As cheap backup I wouldn't dismiss him. Tarrant staying on the park for the entire year is a 50 / 50 proposition.

Came from Kalgoorlie and travelled the 6 hours to Perth to train and play then back 6 hours. As a result was not in the elite training system and was behind the other 18 year olds, in his draft year, in that respect.

That plus 198cm players take longer to develop and then add the last two years spent with little actual game time has me giving him some slack this year.

Big bonus to the club if Miller takes a spot in the defence. He is not completely out of place based on the 2 games he has played. Want to see more games before making any firm call on his future

For physical confidence Ben Miller is way behind Mabior Chol. To this day. But just like Chol he keeps improving.

Ben is a 2.8 odd for 20m. If he wants to get there he can get there. Ben's biggest challenge in the past has been onfield engagement. Although there were times yesterday when Miller might have run faster he did a lot right. And crucially he got more urgent in the last quarter. This is an indication, not just of improvement, but of coachability.

Miller has Scanlan's skills and perfect DMBIH. If we can coach him for success he should be putting the jets on to run and receive. We got one of those yesterday. Just a little one. Ten would be nice. Ten faster and longer.

Every facet of Ben Miller's game can be improved. Massively. With confidence, experience and coaching. That ball watching we got yesterday, that slowness of response was an improvement. I'd like to see Ben Miller get a block of games right now.

NB if Mabior Chol frustrated you Ben Miller might drive you insane. ;)
suffers from being a junior in a senior flag waving side. Is it your turn to go Ben? Oh wait Flossy 3 time premiership star has intercepted. Or is it Grimes the outrageous All Australian?
Has hesitancy and uncertainty. But the physical tools to be solid. Maybe B grade? I'd take that in 2 years when we transition out Grimes and Tarrant. And we have the A grade Gibcus in place.
Lets set that as a defensive pass mark. To be judged in 2023.

Offensively? His kicking came on when Joshy Gib kicked a daring ball to Ben at CHB. Josh has written his own licence to dare.
And Ben might get carried away with it as them young kids are wont to do. Hanging out in the centre, being all louche and lairy and risk taking with sublime passing. Can Gibcus bring out the attacking weapon in Miller? The two of them prepared to take risks and fail because the other would have done it too.
Exciting.

Maybe a mix of Talia and Scarlett (kicking only)
We could do with that.

Cheep depth defender - you dont delist Miller in the short term. Keep for at least 2 more years IMO. Not every player is a super star, he is serviceable.

I am very happy to keep Miller on the list in the 44th spot and pay him $200k a year

I also feel more comfortable knowing if Broad.Grimes,Tarrant gets injured we have Miller as backup

if he becomes more its a bonus

just 22 years old

Plays very tidy n composed footy within the limitations of what he knows he can do safely at the moment. He's another that's missed a heap of footy because of the covid crap n more than likely has no real idea of what his true capabilities are as yet. All of two senior games n he's not done much of anything wrong, hoping he gets a full season of footy this year of which maybe six to eight games can be seniors. Then we might be able to get a proper look at his game n development.
