Mcstay isn’t as terrible as made out here, he’s a decent 3rd banana but he,ll be 27 going into 2023. A 6 year contract will have him playing til 32. Just don’t think you want a 3rd banana on 600k at 31,32.

Ch 7 reporting we along with several other melb clubs into Daniel Mcstay 600K 6 years

Hopefully the Bombers get him. Too old for our next generation and isn't that good. He only averages about a goal per game for the last 4 years. Not a forward to be spending that sort of money on. We wouldn't have to trade for him I guess as he's a free agent, but I'd prefer to spend the money on midfielders.

We'd play him in defence, I reckon.

With Cotch/Jack & Shedda retiring, thats approx 2 mil in cap space to fill.
500k on draftees
Leaves us with 1.5.
Another 500k on improved contracts to the likes of Short/Vlas/Broad/Baker etc.
Leaves us with 1mil to play with or more to the point forced to use.
Can see why the McStay thing has legs although i think its just a decoy for someone else.
{And thats not taking into account the possible retirement of Dusty)

I would love Zac Bailey from the lions. Midfielder playing as a half forward. Being held back by Fagan’s poor coaching.

Remember we can also adjust contracts to pay earlier in the contract term, to free up future cap space. We wouldn't just take a FA for the sake of it IMO. We may trade someone in that would also take up some sppace, plus we can pay out as low as 95% of the cap which could save us $500k for future years too.

From memory I think the Lions selected him with the pick we swapped for the 2 picks we selected CCJ and Balta with.

Gets involved in everything good we do.

We need to find another one in the draft.

Sonsie is different, we need blue collar but with class.
Just moving this here, mate.

Paddy Dow has been on our radar before, and vice-versa. Out of the side and out of contract at the end of the year. 23 in October, 187/83. 58 games, has improvement in him. Dodgy kick but not horrendous. Reckon we could possibly get him for a third, which would be a bargain given:
24 and 7 clearances v Suns VFL today
30, 15 clearances, 2 goals v Box Hill last week, including burst from centre clearance goal from 55
32, 7 clearances, nice running goal v Brisbane in R1.

He's definitely blue collar but has some pedigree. Late maturer. Would fill the list hole left by Higlet from the same draft.

Carlton might prefer not to have him around to remind their high-priced recruit of the bath he gave him last year:

(Mac Andrew 23 touches 8 marks today btw. Ben Hollandseses' boy Elijah 22, 5 clearances and a goal. Yes pls to him, all class and great size/athleticism.
Andrew 20 touches R1, Hollands 19
R2 Hollands 22, Andrew 7).

This is going to be an unpopular one but I would have a look at the barometer, Rhys Mathieson.
Playing magoos at Brisbane, hard working inside mid

Bit early to be drinking Sin ;)
84 disposals in 3 matches in the vfl this year.
I know we didn’t like the way he carried on against us but he is a super competitive big bodied mid. We have Cotchin on his last legs and we need this type on our list with RCD not coming on.
But I told you it wouldn’t be popular

Still say that Paddy is just Ross in a Carlton jumper. I dont really see the differance in them myself. Pretty much identical heights and weights. I suspect if Ross was playing full time inside mid in the ressies he would be getting similar numbers.

Look closer. Paddy is much quicker and cleaner. One-touch pick-ups and explodes from congestion. Goal kicker. Dynamic v somnambulent. Has it all over Ross.

He’s poor when he hasn’t won the ball from what I have seen. Based on that, doubt we are interested.

You may be right but I dont see it. We are putting a premium on disposal skills now so iffy at best I reckon

I think you'd need some very good inside intel
from what I've seen the guy could be a real knob , or he was just playing up for a camera ?
I'd prefer to not take the risk
