Its basically pain and inflammation management for Kane unfortunately, the damage structurally to his hip is well and truly done and whilst he will not help that damage by playing the end result will be the same pretty much, hence the decision taken to try and manage him through but they did have to get as many games into him as possible for him to maintain a level of fitness.

He will likely require surgery/ surgeries to get back some life quality post footy.

A few differing options for this from my understanding but I dare say the most minimal surgical option might be taken first to buy time until possible more dramatic surgery may be required further down the line.

These procedures were no doubt discussed by all involved in the Medical team, as well with Orthopaedics specialists and the strength and conditioning team, the MC Coaches and Kane to come to a concensus on what avenue was the best to take.

I feel that Kane will be done once he's done hence he is trying to squeeze out every last game he can.

Its difficult for him because he needs to maintain a level of match fitness which he cannot get when he is not playing.

He looked slower and looked inhibited and a bit more fumbly against the Bombers moreso than any of his other games this year, having a stuffed hip will do that to ya.

Would love nothing more than to see him presented with a 4th Premiership Medallion.

The effort he is making this year to play for the RFC and be a contributor is immense, and not many would keep punching in his situation.

RFC fans hopefully will have some level of appreciation for the pain and debility that Kane is battling through. especially in the days ensuing after playing.

It is good that Kane is prepared to put his hip through hell for the cause but he must think of his future post football so doesn't need to do irreparable harm to his hip. That said if we can manage him for the rest of the season it will be a bonus for us. We will miss him but his longterm health is more important IMO.

Damage is already done mate, his bone spurs which he had removed a few seasons back carved the cartledge out of his hip joint years back.

The ensuing damage is the result of bone on bone with no cartledge.

So we can't blame his girlfriend about the problem Craigo?

There are few players who have a lasting effect on a footy club. You can easily see that Lambert is one of them. Whilst he doesn’t have the same high profile as some other players, within the four walls he would be sitting comfortably next to the likes of Martin, Cotchin, Jack etc in terms of importance when we won our premierships.

High profile tennis players such as Andy Murray have had hip resurfacing operations and returned to their sport. I wonder if this is an option for Lambo? I guess 6-8 months rehab is taking a lot from Lambo's remaining career.

What's the turnaround time on such a surgery?

There is re surfacing, partial hip replacement (cap) and full hip replacement.

Where re surfacing is concerned it depends on the level. I had 1cm taken off the circumference of the ball areas of both hips and a few spurs taken off the sockets. So a fair bit of work. That took 9 months of a lot of painful re hab. But obviously less invasive = less time.

I think by the sounds of what others are saying, he’s exhausted the re surfacing option now anyway.

Geez I love the Lambo. One of my favourites.

Yeah it's sounding like a career ending option.
Last roll of the dice.
Love Lambo too.
Great player.

Great player

Hopefully a few more if it just takes time to settle.

He will miss the Swans game clearly, then has another week off with the bye.

Aim to play him against Port, Carlton and Geelong (all at the MCG, all have 7 day breaks)
Rest against West Coast and possibly Gold Coast
Aim to play him against North, Freo and Brisbane
Rest him from the Port trip
Aim to play him against Hawthorn and Essendon to see the season out.
Bye week gives him a week off
Then its finals time baby.

2 week break, then 3 games, then 2 week break, then 3 games, then 1 week break, then 2 games, then 1 week break going into finals. Possibly plays 8 excluding finals.
