I am sticking to Balta as a forward and Miller as a defender. Both to play in our next premiership team. We will have to wait to see where.
Important to have options. Both kicked monster goals last week, Balta as a forward, Miller as a back. Who cares what their starting position was - six points is six points.

Hypothetical - huge final against Melbourne or Brisbane ... one of them starts the game on Harris Andrews or Lever as a defensive forward to stop the intercept marking. What does this mean? We dictate terms, not them.

Maybe one or both share the relief ruck duties (think Astbury in 2020 GF). But their role is primarily a defensive one, especially at centre bounces - forcing a secondary stoppage is a priority if the oppo ruck and mids are on top.

Don't forget - there'll often be a tall on the bench, so the talls as a group need to have enough flexibility to cover this.

Options ... mis-matches ... keep the oppo guessing. Remember when Hawthorn were dominant? They'd often change the positioning of their forwards around after each goal - never let the oppo defence settle.

Discuss.

Both are capable of relieving in the ruck, and possibly of doing so out of a position from either the forward or the backline. If they are developed in this way thats a big plus.
The problem is that Nankervis has been far from a dominant player this year, and maybe a taller option is needed to provide necessary ruck support.
Soldo is also not doing well and maybe Ryan should be preferred.

Trying to accomodate the above I earlier went for,
Vlastuin Tarrant Miller
Broad Grimes Rioli D,
Pickett Short MacIntosh
Baker Graham Bolton
Cumberland Balta Riewoldt
Nankervis Sonsie Prestia
Brown* Cotchin Ralphsmith and Ryan,
(out Aarts Gibcus Edwards sub)- but agree it looks top heavy.

Jeez he’s a dumb footballer. He will never be a key forward he’s just not smart enough. What an athlete but a seriously dumb footballer.

What is almost worse is Balta turned his back on the play when he marked it . Cumberland was running to the goal square and may have been an option. But he turned his back. Just dumb dumb dumb.

Culpable. Moron. Watched from.pocket ...clueless in terms of reading flight making position . Basically not a footballers bootlace. And patently not fit.

Woah, shocking couple of posts above.

Great game and all class throughout the day, probably his best game since early in the season.

Positive signs heading into finals.

Loved his passion and overall mindset in the interview after the game as well, regardless of the frustration in some of the above posts this guy is a young leader in the making and he's showing great signs.

Was it 30 seconds? I was at the game but not paying attention.

Thought he played alright otherwise.

We need to get Alex Rance to do some tutoring with him. First few years Rance was a bit like Balta - superb athletically, great mark, but a bull at the gate with little composure or thought for the game. Rancie learnt that and became a superstar.

Get Rance back to work with him. Even if he goes back to the backline. Get Rance to shape him.

Athletic beast. Endurance is a weakness, but he’s a burst power player. But unfortunately his footy iq is very poor.
