Trent Cotchin (Merged)

Fun fact. If you add up the combined premierships won as captain by both Cotchin and Selwood you get a grand total of 3!

Commentators love to bang on about how good a leader Joel Selwood is but he’s not even in the same conversation as Cotchin.

Yeah this boils my *smile*. They crap on about Selwood and how great a leader he is. He's a ducker and a thrower and continually whines to the umpires. Been known to throw a cheap shot as well.

He has got nothing on Cotchin as a leader. Cotchin was a major key in changing the entire culture of a club that was derided as a rabble for decades. In the process he lead the club to 3 flags in 4 years.

Tell me to how many flags Selwood has captained Geelong? The biased media narrative on Selwood is embarrassing.

Last night AFL 360 "Bill and Ben" carrying on about the Scats and Duckwood, Salty and Shocking I felt like puking.

We’ve all read the bits about Cotch & Dusty making a pact to get the club thru 2016 , and Cotch and Dimma doing similar
He’s navigated the highs and lows of foot at this level

I can only imagine that his contribution off the field would be big , and his preparation would be 1st class and that without trying he would be a great role model

The way Hawks handled Sam Mitchell & Ljje Hodge wasn’t

Let’s hope we can do a whole lot better when his time comes

The sooner we can get more ex players or supporters in the media the better we will be, then we can control the narrative

Like everyone else has said he is getting to job done. Very consistent and now a 6-12 player vs a 1-6. You don’t see it as much at the ground but on the tv his desperation to hunt the ball and knock it on or disrupt an opponents disposal which may lead to a turnover is just brilliant. Unless it all goes wrong health wise looks good for another year at least.

Agree 100%. If circumstances were different, it may have been the right time to hang up the boots end of this season. But we're losing too much experience and leadership in one hit, and he is still a key contributor, we need him to go one more IMO. It will be worth it even if he only plays 10 or 12 games.

yep, thought this year would and should be his last given recurring injuries and a drop off in output, but he's been immense. Keep him on if he's fit next year.

Nice bouffaint (I wish I had), but the worst part is he has a lot of it especially under the chin. Must be a headache to continue shaving. Still remember Rancey's funny line: "He's a very hairy man Trent"

Plus Cotchin lead Tigers disposed of Selwood lead Geelong in all our flags.

Deserves another year. And he could always go to a cream spot as an extra at half-back and rack up 20 odd easy touches. Although its not really in his makeup to take an "easy" role ala Hodge.
